Cam only cars in here
Cam only A4 cars in here I am wanting to begin modding my '98z, and I'm kind of on a budget. I can't afford heads right now, but intend to do a bolt-on cam only car, leaving the rest of the motor alone. What I want to know is how big can I go? This is a primarily street driven A4 car, which is getting a new tranny and BIG stall next month. I want something that will sound pretty lumpy, and help me maximize my setup. In time I will get heads, just not this year for sure. I might spray a little, 125-150hp max.

if you are keeping that stall then something in the 221-222 range
If you are getting a bigger stall, then something in the 224-230 range
ifffffffffffff you drive the car daily, then i would stick with a 224/224 or 226ish cam maybe all on 114
if you dont drive the car a whole lot, then check out some of 228-230ish cams. Futural makes some good grinds. There F10(228/228) seems to be a nice cam. Im sure some will jump in and say they have cams bigger that idle great. Well, thats good for them. But the idle and other isues with a bigger cam may get to and annoy some of the daily driven car owners
anything in the 224-228 is a nice, daily driven cam choice. Of coarse the smaller you go, the less hassle you "may" have with idle. A4's are hit and miss.. some idle fine, some dont. Tuning will fix that, but wont make it picture perfect. Get the stall first, then if you want get a cam.. but a bigger stall will make you happier than a lil cam:-P

n/m, saw you dont have a stall at all for your car...
get a 3600-4000 stall and I think that will hold you over for a while... then get a cam later on if you still feel the need. Its a whole lot of less headaches with a stall then going internal:-P

I want to choose the stall with a cam in mind. A lopey idle doesn't bother me one bit. You should see some of the street toys I've had. I'm thinking 230-240 range with lift approaching 600. I don't get enough free time at the track to be able to do 10 passes in a summer, and to be realistic my wagon will be at the track more than my camaro, unless I get a trailer. I want something that will sound mean and perform well, considering I'm not budgeted for a set of heads this year. 3800-4400 is where I plan to shoot for on my stall, more than likely with a higher STR.
i'd personally get a F13 and yankpt4200 if I did everything over and wanted a killer street car and track performer... some would go bigger, but from what I see, that would be a killer combo
F13 is a 230/232 cam
i just got a F11 228/230 cam since my car see's more street than track now.

Verdad Gallardo Bain, thats kind of what I was thinking. I'm afraid of blowing through the stall. Jaberwaki, I have driven with some pretty nasty cams, so I'm not at all skeered of the little T-Rex. Some of the cams I've had are bigger at .050 than these little cams are at advertised duration. Unless it's over .750 lift, it's just a baby. ANd yes 72 sub, just check my homepage under 'Teams'. Nitemare Racing Front Engine Top Fuel Dragster. Looking for 5.60s this year. In the 1/4. At about 270 through the traps. I don't drive it, I just tune it.
