how good is this motor? would having it blueprinted make it better? $3,945,4340 steel crank, eagle h beam rods, ross 2640 forged oistons w/valve relifs and says will handle 700 natural aspirated hp. SLP says they sell it so cheep because they buy so many they get a price break and pass the savings off to the people. sounds like some nice parts.WHAT DO YA ALL THINK?

I was going to order the SLP motor, but decided to have it built locally. Cost only $500-700 more for the same parts.

The SDPC LS2 402 is machined and assembled by Sunset Machine Shop and is top notch.
Contact the user "Horsepower" here for details on the SLP block. He works for them and can answer your questions.
I must say it's pretty sad when a $4,000.00 short block is considered a "budget" motor. Maybe one day the prices will come down for these motors, but doesn't look like in this lifetime.

This post says the SLP motor is aluminum!!!!!!! I have not seen ads for the aluminum version but I have seen the iron-blocked 402 ads in magazines for $3600.

I have heard all/most aftermarket LS1 crank castings come from pretty much the same place in china. But then finish work is done here. Also heard that a place over there will actually do the machine work also to those same castings, which could mean a super cheap 4340 crank coming soon.

How many claims does SLP get for an alumium forged 402?
I saw some ads many months ago announcing the iron-blocked 402. It said you could get it in two different compression ratios. Is this possible with the aluminum versions?
