Default Need stroker engine, what to get.

Hey everyone. My motor finally blew, so it is time for a new one.

I am 19 and on a budjet. I am in college so money is kinda tight. I have $4,500. right now. So i figure that can get the short block than I need a fast manifold, and tb, injectors 255 pump, and other small stuff. I also need heads and cam stuff. Which places are the best to get an engine what can handle around a 200 shot of nitrous and still be kinda cheap, wheather it is a 396 or 383 or 408. Thanks for the help!

You will need a little more than you have, can you do the motor swap labor yourself?

Call up HPE, they offer a 4k stroker kit, beyond that you will need new head bolts, harm balancer bolt, oil, filter, head gaskets, exhasut gaskets, water pump gaskets, possible new front and rear main seals, and few days.

You should be able to get it all done for a little over 5k if you do all the work yourself.

I would recomend getting a new oil pump while you're at it.

A 4500 budget will get you a 383 from tr witch is $3995 or you can get a 347 for $3095
and have enuff left over for a cam/springs/pushrods/oil pump/timing chain.

But sence u will no longer have a blower i would just go with a stock short block unless you plan to spray. NO point in having bad *** forged parts and not use them.

You can also get a 408 shortblock for the same price as the 383 stroker ls1 combo.

You will have to make the choice though agains iron or aluminum.

For 7k you could get the 408 shortblock, stage 3 heads (your choice of our 330 cfm 5.3 heads, or AFR 205's), custom cam, chromemoly 1 piece pushrods, rollermaster timing chain, head gaskets, and head bolts. You would just have to reuse your stock lifters and rockers. Or spend the extra to get new/jesels. That's pretty much up to you though if you have a 7k dollar limit.

I am also interested in buying a 383... but if the 408 is the same price I might go with that. Please PM me.

Here is my current price list on my 408

motor 3750
heads 2100
cam 350
chain& retainer cups 65
ARP HSK 225
gaskets 34
tune 500
injectors 315
fuel pump 115
lifters 180
clutch 835
prods 109
TOTAL 8578

Most parts were new, some used. This does not include goodies that i'll need like:
bmr k 400
kooks 850
true duals 400
rear 2500
TOTAL 4150
Grand total, $12,728

Now, you COULD do it all cheaper, but if you want to go fast you have to pay for it. A simple 383 with stock heads cam etc is not going to produce the power you want for what you are paying, you will need to spend some cash on heads/cam etc.
