GM's Hot cam kit ? any lope to it?
guys i really need to do some upgrades to the 99 ls1 i have in my 69 camaro . its completely stock . rpm's drop off real quick at around 5,000. i think the valve springs need replaced . my concern is the cost and i need some sound since it is a 60's muscle car.
the hot cam kit seems very reasonable . but is this enough to justify the money or do i get all the parts separate and get a TR224 or something like that ? any help would be great .

lope is about all a hotcam does. tr 224 doesn't have a very muscle car sound to it. lobes aren't as aggressive as alot of others. an x1 has a nice sound to it, and makes good power.

i actually think that the hotcam sounds wimpy. (this is only my opinion by the way ) but i had the hotcam in my last car with OPEN headers and it just didnt lope enough for me. i preferred the GM asa camshaft. it was ALOT meaner sounding, and will sound more of a muscle car feel, shake. ASA has the same amount of lift as the hotcam, so springs would be in heaven if you got some 918s or manleys. ASA will make more power too!
i dont want to get your hopes down, though. the hotcam sounds alot better then the stock cam. and it DOES lope, but if you are used to a heavy hitting cam then the hotcam is not for you.

If you want to make any kind of real power you don't want either hotcam. Do you have a manual tranny? How tight is money? As they pointed out, loping is about all the hotcam does well. It will make more power than stock, but just about any other cam out there will stomp it into the ground when it comes to performance. I do like the way it sounds, and the ASA cam is even meaner. The ASA's lope is rather wicked, actually.
