Default Big cam stock converter

What is the biggest cam I can get with a stock stall converter?
I can't afford stall right now.

Out of curiosity, why is this exactly? I hear so many people say "do the stall first" but I dont know why exactly... is it because the loosness of an aftermarket converter helps with surging? (I already have an ST3500, but i am going to buy an F13 and I just am curious about the topic)

The bigger cam should make more power total, but it will generally make it at higher RPMs. Depends heavily on the exact cam, but you can actually make less HP and TQ at lower RPM than you did with a smaller or stock cam. The loose stall allows you to instantly get into that higher RPM band where the bigger cam is going to make power. I'm keeping this comment generic as I don't know the F13 off hand, but in general what I said is what happens when you "step up" the cam.

Oh yeah, and I second the guys who said get the stall first.

Looser stall: instant dragstrip improvement.

Bigger cam without looser stall: disappointment.

Both of them together: big smiles

I personally had an A4, get the stall first, I suggest a TCI SSF3500 or something comparable, even bigger than that if you don't plan to spray. The converter made a HUGE difference in my car. I rode in a 224 cammed car with the stock stall and my car seemed faster with just lid and exhaust LOL. But when that car finally got into the upper rpms it started to pull like a ****. Do it once, do it right, converter, then cam. And as you can tell by my sig, I now have a 6spd, and wouldn't have it any other way
