Default oil presure problems

My friends car has been having problems. sometimes driving around it will go to zero psi and you will hear the lifters go dry. When the car is at a hot idle it will make 20psi. The car gose to zero psi maybe once every 2 weeks. Whould u say buy an ls6 oil pump and replace it. The op switch is fine the guage works...im kinda lost with this car

how many miles is on it ?

when you do a LS6 ported oil pump most places shim the spring .120 and that adds preasure across the board i just went through some of these problems

also you might want to drop the pan and make sure there is nothing cloging the pick up tube

Most definitely replace it I would say! Thats pretty close to a no brainer, especially if your hearing the lifters go dry dang. Many people have had the stock oil pump take a dump on them, so I wouldnt doubt that may be your problem. Only other thing I could maybe think of is clogged oil passages or pickup tube, possibly the screen on the pickup is packed with dirt insane style. My first guess would be oil pump I would say. While your tearing in there convince your friend to put in a cam and new timing chain HAHA Spread the MOD bug. Good Luck

I wouldn't keep driving it around in that condition! Replace the oil pump.

yowzers, i thought my oil pressure was bad!

i switched over to a k&n part #2006 oil filter (long kind), and noticed quite a boost in pressure. low pressure sometimes means bearing failure

definatly wouldnt drive it untill you get a new oil pump on there, they are pretty cheap, as are ASP underdrive pulley's. might as well replace it when you have it off. and an ls2 timing chain is only 30 bux, and.......i'll stop there
