Just wondering what you guys/gals thought about my situation. I could get some heads for my stock shortblock that I am spraying a 150 shot on, or I could save a little more and just get a forged 408 shortblock. Also, will my 241 casting heads go on a 408? If so, how much would it be choking it? My stock shortblock only has 29k miles on it and it has the LS6 block. I've sprayed about 4 bottles through it so far with no problems at all (knock on wood). What would you do??!

It would be even cheaper to just pick up a pair of LQ9 heads cheap. They can be had for $250 ALL OF THE TIME. They will flow well and have bigger combustion chambers for the new displacement.

Judging by your questions you are on a budget. If that's the case buy some nice quality heads like the AFR 205 cc and enjoy, then build the stroker when money allows.

I think he just wants to buy the 408 shortblock and just take everything off of his current 346 and slap it on the 408 and spray the total **** out of it.. i thought about doing this myself..
Get Bo to do a mild port job on some LQ heads, put a big *** cam in it, ls6 intake, injectors, fuel pump, and spray it like theres no tomorrow. you can make up for the lack of expensive heads with a whole lot of the jug!

You still need to factor new gaskets for the heads. All the pieces for the shortblock, like timing chain, oil pan, oil pan gasket, install, and the 6.0 has some different brackets then the LS1, but I cant remember what they are.
I would say do a real nice set of heads, and when you get enough coin to do the 408 send the heads back and have them remachined for a larger valve and freshened up.
The other thing you could do is find someone local selling their complete setup. It would run around 6000-7500 depending on the mods included.
Then sell what you have and put some cash back in your pocket.

hmm, my 408 makes 550rwhp with a 'small' cam and $1500 set of heads that 'only' flow 293 @600 with a 2.02 valve. you don't need to spend a lot on heads, and flow numbers don't mean jack ****.
