Default buying a 2000 TA how do you tell if the enigne is bad?

Ive been talking to a bunch of people who say they burn oil real bad and have a lot of piston slap issues.....????

They said to have someone follow me while driving to look for plumes of smoke?

They also told me to listen to it on start up for piston slap?

Is this a pretty common problem?

I would do a compression test at the least, that will tell if the rings are good. How many miles are on the car?

Have a local LS1 gearhead go with you to buy it.

Piston slap can be heard only on cold startup.

motot should still be pretty fresh with only 50k on it as long as it was taken care of properly ie oil changes mainly.

should last at least 130k mine has 92,000 and dynoed 415 rwhp 8000 miles ago. Mobile one synthetic is the **** and if he did use it its whole life the motor is still fresh, but just to be safe take it to a competent mechanic and have him check the compression and everything else if it all checks out good go ahead and buy it. It should have a whole lot of life left in it. 50K is low miles in my book. Good luck!

best way to see engine health is a leakdown test, even better than compression as it will not only reveal a weakness but also what the weakness is.
