Default LS1 block went 30 over, LS6 cam

I had been told you couldnt go but 10 over on an LS1 block, but when I called GM they said the block was unserviceable- I found a kit that would allow you to go 40 over but I thought that was pushing it so we went 30 with LS6 cam and valvesprings. so far so good no heating problems or ses codes. when I get the tune and dyno I'll post what turned up.

Not much steel left in those cylinders! Good luck, you're living on borrowed time...

The problem is the sleeve thickness....not the actual aluminum behind it. They are thin to start and will be more prone to cracking now that they are thinner. It might hold out 6 days, 6 weeks, or 6 years.....Its just one of those kinds of things. The more power and RPM's, the greater the gamble. Curious how things go over the long haul. Good luck....

Well im not spraying or using any forced induction so I think I should be OK. Believe it or not I actually got 350k miles out of that motor so I decided it earned its retirement from daily use so that should help but time will tell

The factory sleeves get thinner as they go down and are less than .075" thick in some areas from the factory so I agree you are on borrowed time but if ya havent had any trouble within the first 3k miles then your probably OK.

Default LS1 resleeving

Dry liners run $58.80 each. Labor to install them and deck the block is $750. Max. bore size for this style liner is 4.030".

Unless you are going to run a blower or nitrous or the engine is going into an NHRA legal class car, it would be more cost effective to just purchase a new block from GM.

How hard did you run your car? I know that normal driving with mostly highway miles and keeping on top of maintenance can make your motor last forever.

What year is the block, because didn't the earlier block only allow so much honing/boring vs the later years?

Most probably 90% was highway driving and the block is a 99. All I had ever heard of was boring 10 over but a little checking into to things showed a couple of options
