Lifter stuck in lifter bore, wont come out normally, options/suggestions?

Similar problem happened to me. I had the comp R lifters. Never new for sure why it happened but the concensus was that the the lifters came out of the lifter cup too far so they were able to turn sideways on the cam resulting in flattened rollers. Probably due to the aftermarket cam having a smaller base circle as well as my blocks own dimensions.

I ended up getting the crane extended lifters so hopefully it will not happen again.

hmmmm i just ordered comp r's, ill have to investigate

How did you get it out BTW ? From the top or bottom ?

from the top, we took it apart (clip out, so spring and valve come out), hooked a tool up to it and pried it out.

I bet the cam side of the lifter is damaged preventing you from pulling it out . Pull the cam and tap it in the other way , that is the only way I know how to remove a lifter that has been damaged . At least that was what happened to mine . Lots of tapping/ knocking noises was what prompted me to tear it apart and find the source . If it wasn't damaged , it would come out with your fingers .
I'm having the same problem with my 08 5.3 I have the very first lifter on cylinder one stuck in the block cannot remove I'm guessing it's damaged on the cam side of the lifterwhen you fixed yours did you have to replace the cam or have it turned or machined in any way
