Default Aftermarket or LS2 timing chain for my 99 H/C?

Hey guys... I'm installing a G5X3, stage 2 heads, etc....

I'm going to replace the stock 60k mile timing chain I guess while I'm in there. Doing the oil pump too.

What timing chain should I use? The newer LS2 chain or something aftermarket?

This is my daily driver, sees 250 miles a week..
Thanks
Steve

LS2 is great if you aren't going to adjust the cam, ever. Otherwise, Rollmaster Double Roller is a nice piece that isn't terribly expensive, but still quite a lot more than the LS2.

I agree!! The LS2 chain is a very nice upgrade for the guys that are doing mild upgrades, and don't need to degree in the cam. We have a few 402's that are making over 500 rwhp that have to use the stock LS2 chain and they are working great!!

I just installed an LS2 timing chain in my 99 when I did my cam a few weeks ago. Much stronger looking chain and you can't beat the price. So far, no problems.

Would there be an advantage to being able to degree the cam in a bolt on,cam car?Does it allow more power to be made?

I just did a cam install and I spend a bit of extra money and got an IWIS timing chaing. Expensive at 150 bucks, but ah well...didn't want the double setup coz my car is not gonna get much more than a cam...maybe heads later on...and I heard some stories of how much fun the oil pump shimming can be.

Yes. It allows you to adjust for any error in the grind so the exact valve events you want take place. I hope that makes sense, I just got up from a nap

Not a very smart statement.

I broke my timing chain cam only, 23k miles. Bent my valves and nicked all 8 pistons.

It IS worth the extra $100 or so.

I just installed the ls2 timing setup. Never done one before but it only took me a few mins to do it with the engine out.
