I figured someone might whip out the rainbow!

But yeah, I'll put some miles on it tonight still before I bring it to the dealer for an oil change....yes...the dealer....this should be funny!

Did that kick *** idle get a bit diminished by the tuning?? If it does, maybe I can make them set the idle speed a bit lower...like 850, to make up for it?

One more thing about the ticking...what do you think it is?
Exhaust sound at idle will not "diminish" witha a tune.... it will still lope and everyone on town will know you have a cam. My idle is set a bit high (not sure what the guys at TR were thinking.) It's at 1100RPM.

I found my "tick" (It think). It was either a crushed AIR tube gasket or the torque on one of the driver side rockers went bad. I retorqued all he rockers (after checking the pushrods for straightness) and installed a new AIR tube gasket (as the old one looked like ***). Now I have the usual valvetrain noise boosted through the headers, but no specific tick. Guess if you really get on it and it starts ticking....check the torque on your rockers.

I'l be interested to see your dyno #'s to It'll give me an idea what I "should" be getting when I dyno mine.

I am pretty sure my rockers are fine and everything is in alignment, we torqued them down to spec. And yeah, with mine, part of the ticking is the AIR tubes...we did the restrictor mod, but the hole is 5/16" instead of 3/16". We still have to redo that.

Rough to know as a newbie when the car sounds normal after a modification, and when not....suckage.

Wish me luck on the dyno tomorrow!

Well, I went to the dealer to have my oil changed, and it was rather comedic. The service writer just kinda looked at the car in that "wtf" twisting the head to the side kind of way. "Not stock, is it?" was his only comment. Many of the other customers enjoyed the show of us trying to get the car up on the lift. The problem is that they use a drive on lift for their oil changes since it's faster....usually....but my car has a Spohn crossmember mounted torque arm for cars with Headers and Y pipes, so the cross member dips down quite a bit, and their lift didn't have much room in the middle so they had to use the extension boards to drive it up there. I am glad my car is not lowered, otherwise this would have been next to impossible. My car is lower from the factory by an inch than most other Camaros...dunno why....but hey, I never had to deal with the offroad look. Anyhow, even with the boards, the crossmember still scraped a bit....and yeah...they made me drive it up there. After genius was done, he told me to drive it back down again...."we won't need the boards this time". I dunno why we wouldn't but....as I started my descent, his watchful eye noticed that.....big surprise.....the crossmember is gonna hit again. So here I am, middle of the downhill descent with the crossmember ready to get caught on the lift, and he wants me to backup. Buddy, this is a M6 car...it's not that easy. I told him to put a piece of wood in front of the front tire so it won't roll, and he goes "you gotta back up first so I can get it under there" He finally got the idea and we got it off the lift just fine.

Needless to say, everyone and their dog watched the show, it was amusing. I am not going there again for an oil change, it's just too much of a hassle.

Yesterday we went to the dyno place. My buddies went along with me, but to my surprise, the doors were closed when we got there. A guy from the neighboring shop was nice enough to call to see what was going on. They had a family emergency and I was told to call back to reschedule. Great, I took a day off for this So, sorry guys...no dyno numbers yet. I rescheduled for Tuesday.

Why are letting the dealer change your oil?? you can do it yourself for under thirty dollars using Mobil One...plus you can check the condition of the oil and see if you have anything going on out of the ordinary in your engine...go buy yourself a magnetic oil drain plug if you don't have one...I like to see whats going on first hand on oil changes..the only time I didn't hange my oil was when I broke my shoulder and couldn't do any wrenching...

Under 30 bucks? Not where I live....I always supply my own oil and filter, and last time I bought the oil and filter for this last oil change it was 46 dollars for that alone!

But yeah, I am gonna start changing my own oil...this going to the dealer stuff is too much of a hassle. I did watch them do it though, and the oil was "surprisingly" clean....lol, it only had 80 miles on it

By the way, can someone describe the normal sound of a cam my size with the springs I used to me and contrast it with the ticking a few guys that just did a cam install recently complain about? Mine just sounds louder in general....more sewing machine valve train noise coming from all over the engine, not a just a isolated area that sounds louder or anything like that. What would I listen for if something was wrong? Again, I haven't been around cammed cars much at all, and I just don't know what it's supposed to sound like.

Car idles and runs fine. The SES light came by for a quick visit, but went away by itself after some driving. Oil pressure is fine too, no backfires, no crazy stuff like that.

Thanks!

Are you telling me they do not have a Wal Mart in your part of Florida...You can buy the Mobil One in the 5 quart container for about $19 and your engine will hold 5 and a half quarts...buy what ever kind of oil filter you like except for Fram and rock on. You do the math..that is less than $30 for an oil change where I live...

Well, I buy the Mobil 1 M1-206 Filter as well, that thing is 10 bucks all by itself. Wal-Mart usually doesn't carry that filter, so I gotta go to Autozone. My local Wal Mart doesn't sell M1 in the 5 Quart jug....so I would have to drive 10 miles to Super Wal-Mart, that's why I just go to Autozone, pull my pants down and bend over the counter.....uhm...you get the idea....

Any wise words as far as engine noise goes? I got a video here, but the sound quality isn't that great...

I would have expected a little more lope? maybe it's because I'm around typically larger cams though and havent paid too much attention to the TR224... sounds good, a lil quiet though (probably from the Tri-flow

Yeah, on that video it sounds real quiet, but in real life the lope is there.

No numbers until next tuesday...August 9th.

I was scheduled for today but last thursday they called and asked if we can reschedule for next tuesday which is the 9th.

My buddy just got a 02 Lightning that had pulleys, headers and tuning done, we'll see what that thing is gonna put down, because I am hoping he can dyno as well. I know he's gonna bring his camera...so I'll have some video of the whole thing.

We are gonna re-torque my rockers on sunday or monday...if they're still in spec, I'll just let it go without the loctite unless some noise develops.

Do you feel any "seat of the pants" difference without tuning?

Oh yeah!

It revs quicker and my usual driving style of rolling into the throttle really doesn't work anymore, coz I don't even get to put my foot down all the way and it's already time to shift again. It definitely feels stronger, beyond 4k it's like a mule kicking in the ***.
