Default How much to swap a cam? (Tucson, AZ)

How much would i expect to pay a mechanic to do a valve spring+camshaft swap?

I don't have the tools or time to do it myself. If anyone knows someone in the Tucson, AZ area that would be a good place to go, let me know.

The GM "book" on swapping cams was 22 hours a few years ago, but we know it can be done by one to two guys in a day, so I would say expect to pay ~$1000.

y dont you just try it yourself, its really not as hard as it seems.. well that was the only way me and my friends learned how to do it.. no the only thing we need to learn is how to actually build the block.. everything else is a piece of cake.. if your going to pay i think it is going to be pretty pricy

I might wind up doing this. I'm technically inclined (engineering major), but I haven't worked much with cars and don't want to screw mine up quite yet.

Cam and valve train upgrade should run about $750 labor!

That's what you'd have to pay around here, too, IF the shop has done several LS1 cam swaps and knows what they're doing. You might also want to ask, "How many LS1 cam swaps have you done before?" before asking the price. If the answer is, "A couple/some/none", then you probably won't care what the price is, because you're not going to let a mechanic learn on your car...

looks like Mike is my only option if i go through with the cam. and you make a good point, i'm not about to let anyone use my car as a mearning experience... hell, i have a hard time letting myself do that.

thanks all.
