Default Advice needed.Just installed oil pump.

Hello yall i installed my ported oil pump yesterday. I reused the stock oil pump O ring. I have a 98. I read that the 2 o rings are differnt. I couldnt find a new O ring so I reused mine it looked to be okay. Well i went to throw away my box that my parts came in and i found a blue O ring in there. The timing cover is still off the car. I am pretty sure i seated the O ring correctly with the old one. Should i take everything apart just to use the newer O ring our will i be ok with the on thats on there? Will the old O ring work on the newer pumps? Some feedback would be great

As long as the old one is seated properly, you will be fine.

CHANGE IT! How many threads on here have you read with people having to tear everything apart? Are you really willing to rely on a 7 year old seal to be re-used? Yeah, it MIGHT work, but it also MIGHT not. Save yourself the hassle, ESPECIALLY if the timing cover is still off...

I say change it.. If you already had it back together and ready to go then I'd say screw it.. But, since its still dissasembled you might as well go back and change it. Better than gettin screwed later and having to tear it down again..

CHANGE IT I didn't change mine on my 98. I installed the old one perfectly, but I had all sorts of probems. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE YOUR OLD ONE.

Ok guys i am looking at the seal right now it seesm to be a little bigger than the the old one and there is allot more play in this one. The old seal seems to be a tighter fit. The pickup tube bolt is a pain in the *** to get a screw back in there.

Just to be sure...you are putting the new O-ring in while the car is still apart, right?

I am gona wait till monday until i get my cam gear bolts. I am sopose to get another O ring seal from TSP on monday as well. I want to look at the new O ring that i get from TSP and compare it to the other new one that I already have to see if they both are loose compared to the stock one then ill put one of the newer ones in .The new Oring seal that i already got looks to be streched out.

Thanks

I Say Change It. I Just Put An Slp Oil Pump In Last Week. It Came With Two Different O Rings A Black One And A Green One. At The Time I Couldnt Find The Instruction Sheet. So I Went Ahead And Use The Black One. After I Had Finish Everything I Found The Sheet. It Said Cause Of The Kind Of Pipe I Had I Was Suppose To Use The Green One. Turn Out That When The Car Got A Little Tempesure It Lost Pressure. I Didnt Realize It Till I Was In Traffic 3 Days Later. The Car Had Less Then 20 Psi. So I Spun A Bearing And Mest Up My Crankshaft. Just A Little Advise.

Do the smart thing and change it. If you are worried about getting the correct one, go to a dealer and get it, but whatever you do, CHANGE IT.

I'll agree with everyone else, change it, if it is torn down still, you would be STUPID not to. For a few reasons. 1) peace of mind. 2) you won't wast a good o-ring by not using it. 3) take 15 minutes to put in a new o-ring or change a 3,000 engine build plus a couple weeks wait?

Well i changed it. It took me 2 tries to get the new seal, to seat correctly. The first time the pickup tube did not seat well onto the oilpump. This made me feel worried about it so i decided to redo it again. I looked at my old oring seal, and it was a good thing i changed it instead of reusing it because there was a small cut on it. I looked from underneat and made sure the oring seated correctly. After that the pickuptube seated good. Thanks yall
