Default I want a cam for my Vette..

That will still work well with 3.42 gears, but still has a nice lopey sound to it. I know that generally the lumpier a cam is, the higher up in the RPM range it makes power, hence the need for gears. I had 4.10's in my SS and I didnt really like it, I like how long the gears are with a 6 speed and 3.42's. I like being able to hit 50 in 1st, and not having to shift so much. I'm looking for good driveability since I drive my vette almost every day weather permitting. I'm thinking about the TR224 on a 112, or would that be a mistake?

You answered your own question there. TR224 112 is a perfect cam for what you want. It can be tuned to idle lopey at the stock idle setting or bumped to 875-900rpms and purr like a kitten.

And its still good with 3.42 gears? Thats my main concern, this isnt a race car, or a track car its a driver. I've done the 3.73 thing, the 4.10 thing, and in my street rod I've even done the 4.88 thing, and I'm well aware that those gears are all quicker, but that isnt my goal. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Good choice. Do you have headers? If not you might want something with a tad more exhaust duration.

You might ask TR aboout using their new lobes to make something like this:

220/224 110 .610/.554 That would use the new LSK lobe on the intake and thier tried and true 224 lobe on the exhaust. This might get you some more midrange punch.

To go a different direction, I tried the reverse split cam (MTI X1)
230 228 on a 112.
I got great power from idle to redline. Peak HP was 44 Peak torque was 41. No need for gears with this set up. Big time lope, car shakes at idle.

I have the TR224 on a 112, and I have the stock 3:42 gears and I can tell you right now, the car didn't lose any low end torque at all. As far as I am concerend I might even have gained a little from when it had just headers. But yes, you will be fine with that cam and stock gears.

Z06 Dave, Your Z06 also has the M12 trans w better gearing than our stock T56's. Your stock 3.42s and trans gearing will accept a far larger cam without needing more rear gearing. BTW I bet your Z pulls like a raped ape!

The max I would go w stock 3.42s & T56 would be a 228 duration or such. Anything more and you will be slipping the clutch badly from stops and taking forever to make it into your powerband. I always laugh at guys that say they love their 232/238 cams w stock 3.42s and how great it is. I wonder if they would be saying the same thing if they could drive the same car only with 4.10s?

The TSP 228R on 112 has treated my car well as a daily driver. I do not drive it everyday anymore just to keep miles off it, but I love the way the cam sounds. Actually got 27.3MPG on the highway once I decided to put good O2 sensors in last month.

My friends and I have had good fortunes recently (last 3 cams just installed) with
216/220 114 +2
220/220 112 +4
224/224 114 +4
There is a progression from lower rpm stability to higher rpm power . All three are the type that generate thrust at lower rpm and are able to carry it out to higher rpm with no problems up top.
