RPM limit 7000. I shift as close to it as possible to maximize force at the wheels.

If I knew the Comp OEM lifters and the 918's could handle it, I'd raise it a bit. Not a daily driver, though.

Sub 6800rpm would be a good guideline on a stock bottom, mid 7000's if you put ARP Rod Bolts in there. 8,000rpm with forged rods and light pistons would not be a problem on a stock crank.

Also the newer LS1's had better rod bolts so a 2000 or older motor is not going to hold up to RPM as well.

Anyone know of any stories off hand of a 2001+ (stronger rod bolts) engine throwing a rod at 6800 rpm or less? I mean these are the same bolts that can bang the 6500 rev limit all day long in the ls6, pushing them an extra 300 rpm dosnt seem too much to ask, does it?

Jimmy P,

Any Crower rod has at least a 180,000psi 3/8 bolt in them which is equvialent or equal to a ARP rod bolt. Almost every aftermarket rod comes with ARP of equal hardware in it from a I Beam Eagle to a Carrillo.

Any big named aftermarket rod has quality hardware. Id spin it to the point were you have to worry about your oil system keeping.

I agree with both of the above posts..any of your aftermarket rods are using high quality fasteners...

7700 rev limit....and thatnks to the FAST 90 MM TB getting stuck WOT I have bounced off that limit for a good 3-4 seconds before I could get the key off. No damage at that time...although I popped a Comp 999 spring a few weeks later. I will be lowering it to 7500 though when the new springs go in.

6200 limit, shift at 6000, all the parts are from different years so I don't know how to badge it.
With my setup I just don't see the point in going higher.

I plan on setting a 6700 rpm redline and shifting as close to it as possible without hitting it.

btw, oil level is very important. When my car is down a 1/2 quart, the oil pressure drops during hard acceleration in 1st gear. I am not sure what the deal is. Also my car burns a lot of oil so I watch the oil closely.

6900 rev limit

harlan shiftlight set @ 6300 now. had it set at 6700 before dyno, but after dyno moved it down to 6300 to drop me deeper in the powerband.

Shift at 6800 with the limiter at 7000.

A ported oil pump would be a wise investment if one wishes longevity in their high-rpm LS1

I can believe it. Some LT1 guys have had no problems spinning their stock bottom ends to 7000 with the GM 847 cam and worked heads. Also keep in mind LT1's generally have lower oil pressure too, most get about 50psi max. Also, the pistons on LS1's are lighter. Derek Redd on camaroz28.com has been running low 11's for several years now on his 94 LT1 with stock bottom end. If an LT1 can hold 7000 if taken care of, an LS1 of any year certainly can.

I feel like I'm the only person that isn't getting this.

How do you know what you can safely raise your redline to, and how do you go about doing it?
