Default 402 Cam

For a track only car, what is a good cam for a 402 motor NA?
Running AFR 225s, FAST 90/90, TH400 w/ 3800 stall, Moser 9" w/ 4.11s on a 28" tire.

I see 24x/25x .60x/.60x 112 in some daily driver 402s
Can you run 25x/26x .61x/.61x 112? Would something like that be too big? I want a 9 second 402 NA guys, come on I know someone has done it!!

You heads choice looks right, your 25x/26x cam choice looks right, and depending on final valve events, your LSA is going to fall somewhere between 110-112.

But to hit 9s NA, you're going to need a LOT more than a 3800 stall and 4.11 gears. Think more like 5000 stall, 4.56 gear and 7500 rpm trap speed. Come on, don't be scared!

If it is going to be a track only, I would go solid roller all the way and bump up to 14 or 15 to 1 compression and a stall and gear like Patrick stated. Futral ran this in a track only 347 cube (550rwhp):
Custom FMS Solid Roller Cam .774"/.744" 260/267 on a 112 LSA just to give you some ideas.

OMG futral runs that big of a cam??
I dont have the $ to spend to convert to solid roller right now so its going to have to be hydraulic.
The 3800 converter is gonna have to stay right now too...
Oh well Im thinking Ill start with 25x/26x .610/.614 112
Patrick, Any suggestions on what to replace those x's with. Would you run a higher lift? I just want to make sure that with those 6cc dish pistons and AFR 225s that I dont have to do any modifications to those pistons!
Thanks!

Going to run a 248/254 629/622 113 in my 402. Roller, 11:1 compression. Will see much more street time than track time.

ET is all about getting out of the hole as fast as possible. Without nitrous, I don't feel that 9s are in the cards with only a 3800 stall converter. There's a half second of ET to be gained by going to the proper converter to achieve your goal. If you're stuck with a 3800 stall, then I'm afraid a cam in the 25x/26x range is going to be a turd until 5000+ rpm range. Just trying to be honest.

The converter and cam have to work together as a TEAM. A 238/248 112 cam would work best with a 3800 stall converter and a 402. Start going bigger than that in cam and watch your 60' times start slowing down. Go to more gear and more converter and we can recommend a bigger cam.

cool, well since I planned on getting a new converter within the next 6 months anyways I would rather go ahead and get the big cam rather than also having to change cams later along with the converter! how does 256/262 .610/.614 112 sound?

what are those 402s with 24x/25x cams running in the 1/4 mile?

I just want to make almost sure low 10s are possible!

with a 25x/26x cam, maybe 63x lift since most good springs can handle .650 lift going through a th400 and 9 inch you should have 475- 500 rwhp.i'll say10.60s-10.70s with that size stall.your 60 ' will be what hurts you.with a 4500-5000 stall you should pick up 3-4 tenths if you can still hook it.

The stall can always be changed no problem. Since I MUST get a new cam I think it is better to get a cam for a 4800-5200 stall rather than one geared more towards a 3800 stall.
