Default Hydraulic roller 402 w/ healthy cam

I have an internet acquantaince who is going to make an engine and transmission purchase shortly. He's up in the air on the type of transmission that will give him reasonable driveability (minimal cam surge, easy to drive, etc.) to put behind is street/strip Monster. He'd like to put about 10k miles on it a year and will obviously put up with some nuissances.

His options are...

Rossler 4L60e w/ Brake
TH350 w/ Brake
T-56 w/ Mcleod Twin Disc

The TH350 should be the least expensive option. The Rossler would probably be the most. Car should put down 520ish rwhp when it's done.

We both realize that cam surge isn't caused by a transmission but it can be lessened with a loose converter or T56. The heathly cam is a must. TIA

Hey. Thanks for all of your help.

Nobody here is running a big cubed motor with anything other then a stock tranny? What do you like/dislike?

I guess he'll be the first person in the country. Is this forum full of heads/cam'd car owners that just talk the talk? What are the big cube'd street cars doing for a tranny?

Big stalled auto should give him the best driveability. If he wants OD, get the '60E otherwise just get the 350.

VINCE has a 550rwhp N/A 7XX N20 motor. He's running a T-56 (I don't know how built it is, if at all) and he was running a spec 5 clutch. However, it is a corvette. Which really doesn't matter too much.

Thanks for the replies!

00blkws6: Why do you think a TH350 would give him better drivability over a T56?

The stall takes you out of the RPM range where there are driveability issues...low RPM cruising.

ditto, but dont go too big on the cam. even with the big stall you'd be surprised how much static compression it takes for a lot of cams to be driveable in the bigger blocks. I'd stay around 250/257 on 111 lsa lift in the low .630's and run on 12:1 static and call it a day.
