Heads are here, I will post some pictures but a I could use a good host for them.

The heads will get on the bench soon enough, but I will talk to Dart about the heads and what I find first before you guys get to know so be patient. (not like ls1408cp who can go pound salt for all I care.) The plan is to have them on a stock cube motor with a medium sized cam and see what they can do on the dyno here in a month or so.

I do have one question for Dart.... with this big spike in Ti parts prices what are you guys going to do about that? Comp raised their price on Ti retainers over 50% are you guys locked in on your retainer pricing or is that going to add a few bucks to the set of heads?

Thanks,

Bret

BTW Thanks to Dart for the early look at these things.

Titanium prices have jumped lately, and hopefully we can stick to the original plan $$$-wise. Through some creative forms of persuasion maybe our purchaser can help to hold the prices where they are currently.

I am days away from ordering my AFR 205's. Should i wait for dyno numbers on these heads? Also what will the compression ratio be with stock head gasket? (2001 Ls6)

How much could Ti prices have jumped recently? I cant imagine it to have been more than a couple of dollars for the stock that the retainers are cut from. Im sure the machining is as or more expensive than the material is. If the finished price of the head truly has to go up 5 or 10 dollars, im sure nobody will really mind, but if its going to go up 100 bucks, forget the retainers, and we can just buy new ones ourselves.

On the Ti prices.....

From what I have heard the price of just Ti is going up 250%. I've looked at making Ti retainers myself and I would say that 70% of the cost of a Ti retainer is material cost. Basically if you look at a Ti retainer and compare it to a Steel retainer for the same spring the price difference is not machine time, it's material cost. It's easily 3X the price for a Ti retainer vs. a Steel and now it's even worse, probably 4.5-5X more.

MUSTANGEATER is working out the details on the pics, should have them up later.

Really, Im very surprised its that expensive, but Ill take your word for it.
Ive always thought that machining costs far outweighed most materials.

BTW Dart is switching to a 8mm valve setup now so you guys dont have to worry about parts interchangeability. Thats even cooler! From what I have heard the head has been revised two times already by a head department that does Pro Stock work all day. I'm excited to see what they do on a motor!

Those do look pretty nice. Those valveguides are just begging to be trimmed down and the casting could be smoothed out by hand for some additional flow. Not removing any material, just cleaning em up. Ill bet the average DIY'er would have no problem just doing a light cleanup and have a real nice head.

Anyway, guys, they look real nice, especially for the money. Great work Dart. And thanks to those who took the pics and hosted them.
