I have used my oil pan to support engine during clutch replacments. With motor mounts still installed. That is about the most weight I have put on mine, good question.

I remember hearing about Team Corvette having to make a super long pitstop because they lowered the car with a lugnut or something under the pan, and it broke the pan. It was probably a custom dry sump system on the car, but I still don't want to mess around with the AL pan on a C5 Lsx motor.

I supported mine with the pan for the motor mount swap. It was up over six hours on the jack with a 8x8x2 piece of wood between them, and no problems here. Just make damn sure that you center it and jack SLOWLY.

The pan on my C5 is pretty thick and strong. I have had the jack under it, and had the motor out sitting on it for weeks. I just shipped a motor from west coast to east sitting on the pan in a plywood box. No problems. I think that the cast pans are stronger than any of the sheetmetal pans that we used for years on the small blocks.
