How should i break in my new cam?

 

You don't need to. Just heat cycle the springs.

 

Yeap 2>3 heat cycles (meaning warming to operating temp, then letting completely cool off), that is all.

save your gas and keep it under 2k (drive it nicely)
you can go higher but its a nice precaution + saves you gas.

after 2-3 cycles you're safe to take it to redline

 

Don't go past 3,000rpms, but I see no reason why you would need to go past 2000-2500

 

i heard you should run it at 2,000 rpm for 20 minutes. but i have no idea why that is.

 

Thats for old school flat tappet cams.
doesn't apply to hyd. roller.

when you break in the springs should you just let it idle? or can you drive it but lik eyou said keep it under 3k. im gonna install the cam at a buddies place about 10 miles away and would like drive it home when i done to let it cool off over night. or should i just leave it their

 

you can drive it, just keep it under 4k

 

If using new lifters do you need to fill them up with oil first?

 

when installing new lifters you want them to soak in oil over night.

 

an hour or so is fine

 

Has anybody ever called the spring manufacturer to see if they're already properly heat treated and heat cycled? I know it's a free precaution, but just wondering.
