f14 vs. f13
f14 vs. f13 I was just wondering why it is that a whole lot more people have the f13 than have the f14. I realize the f13 makes a little more low end and the f14 makes more highend. Wouldnt you mainly want more higher power since when your racing you are in the higher RPMs. I am plannin on buying one of these two cams next month, I wont take it past 7,000 RPMs so which cam do you all think will be better? Ive searched alot on both cams, but havent found anything on this. Also the cam would be on a 112lsa most likely if it matters.
The f13 is more streetable. My car is a daily driver and the f13 has pretty good road manners for a cam that makes this much power. The f14 will make more power but will cost a little drivability.

thanks for the search link, and like ive said ive already done that. I realize the f13 may be a little more streetable, but it seems as though everyone with the f14 says it drives just fine as long as you get a GOOD tune. Also i dont plan on bringin it to 7k that ofter, and i will be getting new lifters which may help the engine last a little longer, but ill be keeping stock rod bolts, and just cross my fingers. I also relize that not everyone races, but why would you want more low end for daily driving, i guess its just opinion, but i think my car has enough power right now to just get around. I also have 4:10 gears though which help alot down low, so i dont really want anymore low end power, ill just spin more. Any other downfalls to the f14 other than not as good manners, and a little rougher idle?
Youre contridicting yourself. If you dont want to spin that high, then you dont want to get a cam that makes its power up higher. Thats another good reason why i went with the f13 instead of the 14. I dont want to spin my stock shortblock and rodbolts past 6600 or 6700, with a 6800 revlimit. Expect the f14 to want to spin 200 RPM higher or so. Lifters are not so much a weak point as the stock rodbolts are. With a 2000 car, you didnt get the updated stronger bolts like the 01+ cars did.
Also, keep in mind that when we say the f-13 has more low end, it dosnt mean its got more low end than the stock cam... Both the f13 and f14 have less off idle torque than the stock cam, the f14 just has even less. If youre worried about spinning with the 4.10s off idle, I wouldnt base your cam decisions on that. Not to mention that tires can always remedy that problem.

Here's my quick advice, FWIW.
If you drive your car every day, go for the f-13. Its more drivable and only 5-7 HP shy of the f-14 anyway. If you have a weekend warrior or a car you only take out once in a while and dont mind something that you have to constantly stay on top of to drive, then get the f-15 ron jeremy

hmmm i didnt realize thats all the power differance. I wish someone had a graph on a car with the same mods, only differance being the cam so i could see the graphs. I guess i should just call futral motorsports and see what they say, i guess they should know best.
I think another reason why more people have the f13 is because it came out a while before the f14. The f14 is fairly new. I went with the f14 because that is what Allen at futral recommended I get with my goals and current setup. I am very happy with it. I think it drives fine on the street, it doesn't die at lights and rarely surges. My car is an a4 and I got it with a 112 lsa so I would say its pretty streetable. Only thing I don't like is I have to give it a little gas to start but I think thats normal for large cams. Once its warm its fine. It idles at about 1100, I would like to get it down to 900 but needs more tuning. Even at 1100 it sounds awesome. I think most people would be happy with either the f13 or the f14, its just personal prefrance.

You do know your going to upgrade at least your valve springs and I would do push rods, timing chain and oil pump too. Plus are you going to install it or pay someone? Its going to add up to a lot more than the long tubes. Plus if you do the long tubes you can sell your shorties and get some back. Derek98z is right, if you want to see gains from the cam your going to need long tubes first.
i know im gonna need LTs, but like i said i cant get them yet. But yes i am going to be getting daul valve springs, hardend pushrods, new retainers, new lifters, ls2 or rollmaster timing chain, and ls6 ported oil pump no matter which cam i end up going with. I will prob. get long tubes in anouther 2 or so years, but until then i do realize ill be missing alot of power without them.

Yea I have to agree with the last post. When I was in college and grad school I wanted to do everything to my car but didnt have the funds to do so. I COULD have streched the small income I was getting working part time while in school but the problem is that sure you might have enough money to mod it reight now, but what if something breaks? I had enough for the cam that I wanted but if my rear end ever crapped out on me or i blew up my engine then I wouldnt have been able to fix it and i would have been screwed. I ended up getting used headers and some other bolt ons and now that I finished school last year and Im working full time im goin with the cam i wanted this fall. I mean hell if your parents are gonna help then by all means go for it, just be careful because once you start modding **** breaks easily and it gets REAL expensive. Good luck though with whatever you choose, and for what its worth im gonna be goin with the fm13.
My parents are going to be gettin the cam, valvesprings, pushrods, retainers, bolts and gaskets for x-mas(just tryin to decide which cam to get now and hopefully order it next month). all ill have to buy is the lifters, oil pump, and timing chain, then pay for the tune. My friend is going to install it, i think he can do it, already graduated from nascar tech. I have enough saved up right now to buy all that stuff and have it tuned, but I will most likely wait till the summer to get the rest. I dont buy anything for my car if it makes my bank account go under $2,000, I feel with that much i can fix most stuff that goes wrong, and if anything goes wrong that cost more than that my parents will help me out. So I am actaully thinking about the money part also. Also I figure the cam, parts, and tuning will end up costing about $2000, does that sound right to you all. Also I think i may actaully go with the f13 now just because i wont have to spin the motor so high and worry about things breaking as much.
