Default Chain and pump question

Note: I have searched this topic, but have not found many answers.

I am going to be doing a cam swap in the near future. I am questioning buying an ls2 chain and ls6 oil pump (ported?) Are they worth buying is the question?

1. What are the pros/cons of getting an ls6 oil pump over my current pump (which has 69xxx miles), and ported or not ported if it is recommended?

2. Is the stock timing chain worth replacing? Would the ls2 chain be the best thing to buy? and who sells those?

Thank you for all information and replies.

I am in the same situation. Have all the parts to do my cam install except the oil pump. I went with a double roller timming chain. The ls2 chain is like $35. You need to replace the chain. If you have good oil pressure now there is no need to replace the oil pump. I would just get a replacement stocker if I were to do it. I have 60K on my car and think I am going to keep the stock oil pump do to $ issues. If you have the spare $ get a new one.

Any sponsor should be able to get the LS2 chain.

Why did you choose the rollermaster double over the ls2?

FYI, you already have a LS6 pump (stock).
If your pressure is good now, it is up to you if you want to change it.
And LS2 chain is the replacement chain for all LSx motors as of early this year.
Much sturdier than the old stock one.

I chose the double roller because it was free. A friend of mine bought it before his motor blew to do a H/C set up. After the block went he got an LS2 402 and could not use the Double roller chain with it and it came with the LS2 chain. IF it were not free I would have bought the LS2 chain.

I went double as well. One because it was reduced price. Two because I have a decent sized cam and a M6, so it's just extra insurance. I would have been fine with an ls2 chain though I'm sure. If you have good pressure there is no need to replace the pump for that model year. If you have a 98 like mine it's imperative that you change it.

I replaced my chain with a LS2 and replaced the oil pump with a stock replacement. The car was made in 05/00. The part numbers on the oil pump I took off was the same for the one I installed. I did it for piece of mind. I gained about 2 to 5 pounds of pressure depending on the situation. Mileage on the car is 64,000.
