Default taking off the heads

When i install my cam, I am also getting new lifters and heard you have to take off the heads to do this. I was wondering, will i have to buy new head bolts, or can i just re-use the old bolts?

You need new ones.
The factory ones are not re-useable.

SDPC has great deals on stock bolt packages. For my own car, that is who I used. Less than $20 per side. Don't forget new gaskets too.

Why are you installing new lifters during the cam change?

lifters wear with the cam. New cam and old lifters will cause problems...maybe not right away but the wear pattern on the old lifters will cause premature wear or failure with the new cam. On another note make sure to buy plenty of assembly lube!

The LS1 cam is not a wear item.

Most guys that do the cam swap use the stock lifters. I haven't heard of any wear problems.

How many miles are on your car? What cam? I installed 2 different cams in my old motor and never touched the lifters. NOTE: If you are removing the heads the stock ones better not be reinstalled What you should do is replace your springs and pushrods Good luck ,Shawn

I have some brand new head bolts I never used. They are on ebay right now for $5.50 with no reserve... They end tomorrow, and I am charging a flat $13 for shipping.. If you win them for $6.00, you would have a brand new set of bolts for both heads for under $20 shipped.

I am getting the f-13 cam, and i wish i had money for new heads right now, but I dont. In the post I made about the cam, alot of people seemed to think new lifters would be a good idea too, just added safty with revving to 6,800. My car has almost 80,000 miles and i prob. wont have enough money to buy heads for my car for a longgggggggg time.
