Please Help Comp "R" Lifters
ok i have comp r lifters in the motor. have checked p/v clearance, had the rockers off, checked clearance on evrything. But when first started the engine makes kinda of a hollow popping sound. but when u give it gas it goes away. also after u drive it for a while it goes away. until u let it set at an idle for a while then it will do it again everyonce in awhile? everyone ive talked to said its just that they bleed off so much oil they dont pump up at idle and that we r hearing the lifters? anyone else have any info? just wanting to check and make sure that the consensus is right b4 i go pushing the bottle on it. has a decent sized cam. about as big as the magic stick but not quite

My comp Rs are dead quiet. .010" preload cold. Not sure how to help you.
242/250 .598/.598 109 cam
how do u measure the preload? torqued them to 24ft./lbs. stock length pushrods. mine tick really bad and as i said b4 make a hollow popping noise when u first start. then as it gets heated, the noise goes away? so can this b my lifters?

Dial indicator on the rocker tip...snug them up...turn the nut about 1/5 turn for .008-.010". That is the only and proper way to adjust them cold. Not sure what the preload is warm.
Yours are adjusted incorrectly. You must use adjustable rockers. Call Comp Cams if you need more info.

I am using stock rockers but not a stock length push rod. With a stock push rod, it was .020 too short. See if you can spin your pushrods with the valve all the way closed.

I use Comp Pro Magnum 1.7 Roller Rockers but any adjustable will do. You will have to clearance the valvecovers.
You guys are making two big mistakes...you are building more horsepower and using lifters that the manufacturer requires adjustable rockers and then on top of that you are using the JUNK stock rockers. Wait until one breaks and dumps the need bearings through your motor like it did DOZENS and DOZENS of people on this board alone...but I realize..until that happens...you are ok.

the motor was originally built by MTI. the rockers were already shimmed. we are just putting a diff cam in it. so in theory and i know its only theory but if you put it back together the way they say then u should be ok no? but for now just trying to get it running. i just had shoulder surgery so for now it just needs to get me back and forth to therapy. and wow what a diff a good MAF will make. mine was junk and the car felt like a dog. put a new maf on it and holy crap!!!!!
