Default FM13 or FM14

I was researching these cams a great deal in the past few days. I just had a bunch of questions that I have to get off my chest.

I have an a4 and all mods listed in my sig with dyno numbers.

I was wondering which one to go with. I mean I love the choppier idle of the 112's but I hear a great deal that a4's don't like 112's because there is no vaccum and it will stall. Also this car is driving everyday rain or shine (except in the snow ).....I also plan on going with a vig 3600 but some say it may be too small for either of these cams. I love the numbers these cams put out high 380's low 390's and if my dyno numbers stay constant I may be in 400's with just cam. Then again I'm asking mostly which is the better choice for me with an a4. What do you guys all recommend. Yes I race my car here and there at the street and at the track. Also which is better for not blowing your engine lol. I hear that the fm14 can peak at 7k which I know is BAD.....so I don't know I'm kind of lost here and looking for some guidence from all you LS1 guru's. Thanks again

Chris

you can get away with a 112lsa on a smaller cam, say like a 224, but neither of those are that small. and as for those 2 cams they both similar so it is not going make a hell of a lot of difference. i would personally say go with the 13 because it is a little smaller and autos dont like big cams as much as m6's do. and as for the stall i think the 3600 would work fine with either of those cams

I've had the FM13 on a 114 recommended to me by several knowledgeable persons, and it's what I plan to put in my car. I'm also going to put in either a TCI 3500 or 4000 stall, depending on whether I decide to spray or not.

Like others have said, there's not a real big difference. The FM13 is proven time and time again, so why not go with something that you know will work and produce awesome results.

Don't even consider either of those cams without at least a 3500 stall converter...a 4000+ converter would be even better.

Contact Futral ... I drive an A4 / SS3600 / 150 shot / 4.10 12 bolt -- I agree with what I see so far. With their help, I chose the FM-13 114 mainly because of A4 and Nitrous. I've been real patient about getting it installed and it paid off today when I found a set of AFR 205 heads. If I knew I was doing heads when I bought the cam I may have gone with the FM14. I did a lot of research and i'm happy with my decision even before installation. All will be installed in 2 weeks. I firmly believe that a Dyno Tune should be in your future as soon as possible after installing the cam. Futral is a top notch company...sometimes difficult to get a hold of in my experience...but worth the effort.

the funny thing is that Allan recommended a stall around 3200-3400 with the F13 on 114 when one of my friends with a 98 T/A A4 asked him

Look I have the f13 112+4 and would recommend it over the others. I have talked to Allan quite a bit on this subject and He will tell you to get the + 4 because of average hp and not just peak #'s that the + 2 has.
The Vig 3600 is more like a 4000 so the converter is fine with any one of those cams. with the size stall you are running, a 112+4 f 13 will be fine and you dont have to shift over 6600 . It will peak around 6300 rpms so your car will be faster and not just a dyno queen.

If i remember correctly, the F13 and F14 have nearly identical power bands +/- 5hp ... there is a graph floating around somewhere. I'll see if i can find it
