Default Vented GM Oil Cap...?

So i was browsing around ebay looking for a stock oil fill neck and cap. I happend to stumble upon this....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-L...spagenameZWDVW

Is this possibly and better and cheaper alternative to the Metco breather? I'm getting rid of my Metco because it won't stay in and keep losing filters....I'm going to get one tomorrow......just wanted to share with you guys and find out if you've seen/heard of it before....

Good find! I just ordered one-now I can just plug my TB to valve cover line. I just power washed my intake over the weekend-you would not believe how much oil was in there.

I'm going to pick one of these up. Good find

Did the Metco solution put an oily residue on the engine bay?

I have the updated PCV valve without the ball in my car now (designed to help oil consumption). I wonder if this filler cap would be a good addition?

Yeah i just picked mine up today it looks like it has a nipple on the bottom of the cap where it vents under the top of the cap....the cap itself is made for our cars because its got the 5-30 rating on it, although obviously its got an entirely different shape than the original caps for our cars. But i think its definatly a better solution than the Metco breather. I just wish i could actually find out if its venting or not....From what i've read on it....it was made recently to help the oil consumption problem on LSx engines....oh well im happy!!

It is the same design used to vent the valve cover on my 2004 Buick 3.4L engine. I think it's designed as a safety vent. For what it's worth, have never had an oil consumption problem on the Buick. However, it also has a vertically mounted PCV valve. As mentioned above, GM runs a vent line from the valve cover that also houses the vented cap. The vent line is connected to the intake manifold just after the throttle body. On the Buick, this line is the line that the PCV valve is mounted in? My guess is the PCV valve vents prior to the oil fill cap & the oil fill cap is a safety valve & would vent any time the PCV valve were stuck closed. There has never been oil residue below the oil fill cap on the valve cover to indicate that the cap had been venting. I believe it's because the PCV valve has never failed.

In the case of an LS1, would think that to use it in a manner that reduces oil consumption, the vent line would have to be plugged. Otherwise, the oil cap becomes a secondary measure. Seams as though plugging the vent line & using the cap as the main vent is a reasonable solution, IMHO.
