Default R.I.P my dear friend.....

Well, I put the 7.4's in, readjusted the preload CORRECTLY, changed the oil, started it up, it made a little less noise, I drove it a little bit, it ran fine, just noisey valvetrain.

I called Ed, he said to drive it a couple days and see if it gets quieter and we will go from there, thicker oil, new cam, etc.

So I went and restarted it, let it idle for about 2 mins, and I was on the phone with my wife and I hear the car start to stumble, almost stall and then CLANK! Stopped.... I said, "Oh hell, I gotta go, the car just locked up", she didn't like that. I swear it was a flash back to the Fast and the Furious when Vin Desiel was racing the Supra at the end in that black charger or whatever it was and that rod let go.

So I went to the car, turned the key and NOTHING, just goes.... blah, nothing.

I get a breaker bar, try to turn it over manually, impossible. I take the drivers side plugs out, they look perfect, I take the drivers side valve cover off, look for broken springs, nothing. I loosen the rockers, let the valves close and try to turn it over, impossible. I try to turn it the reverse way, it lets loose and I hear something but not sure where it came from, and it won't turn anymore.

Just great I must say! I think either my timing chain broke or a rod let go and locked the motor up I think. I was planning to drive the car tomorrow too, thank God it let go in my driveway.

Yeah!

Hate to say it but sounds like you lost oil pressure and the pistons have seized. It doesn't take long in an aluminum block. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear it. Knocking and then stopping is never a good sign. I'd be thinking hard about a nice 402 short block.

I suspect if the cam was off even a little bit that may have caused it;

"Custom Ed Curtis cam 236/240 .630/.608 on 113lsa (he said it would clear without flycutting, I told him what I had and wanted)"

Man, let us know what you find out. But definetely sounds like seized to me. Done that before and it feels just like when you jump off the cliff to bungee jump and theres that split second where everything freezes and you are like "wtf did I do??"

+1 for stroker, anything that breaks is an excuse for an upgrade (i usually don't wait for an excuse though, i just call it preventative maintanence)

Unhappy

Damn!

Time to take a small vacation!

That loud knock must have been an internal problem like your buddy stated.

Damn!

Might want to give Ed Potter at LPE a call.

He has a great deal on 403 engines.

Damn!

After all this work too.

Damn!

Just call me if I can help with "anything"...

Damn!

Ed

Sorry to hear that man. I have lost two motors on previous cars and know how crappy that feeling is. I threw a rod in one (actually shot out of my oil pan and I left oil all over the road) and lost my oil pump while doing 75 mph in the other.

Listen to JRP and use this as an excuse for a stroker. At least that would be a glimmer of a silver lining and it would ressurect the beast

Good Luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Rip into her and please tell us what you find! While I hate to hear about your misfortune, learning from mistakes and sharing the knowledge helps the entire ls1 community. It just sucks to be the one to "take one for the team". But until you rip into her and find the extent of the damage, all anyone here can do is speculate. My guess is that a valvehead broke off and is embedded in your piston and head. Sorry for the grotesque picture. Hope its not that serious though.

Any updates here on what happened?? Very interested to see what happened with your engine. Could be any number of things!
