Default Scat I-beam rods

Anyone use the Scat I-beam rods in their buildup? Any comments on those?

Thanks, -Dave

I'm using the SCAT h-beams in my current build. No testing as of yet, but nice pieces.

Cool... sounds like the H-beams are good, but how about the I-beams?

Yea, they're like $180 cheaper and I am not going to be exceeding the stock 6200rpm redline. High RPM's really test your rods.. and since I am keeping the RPMs down, there's no need for a bullet-proof rod.... however I would prefer something forged over my 80k mile powdered metal rods. If the I-beams are a little heavier, I can deal with that. I just don't want to buy junk!

what kind of buildup are you doing....
reason why i ask is, obviously scat is a budget rod, and id be lying if i said i wasnt nervous about having them in my 700hp FI buildup this year. reason why i picked them last summer is becuase the motor blew and the money wasnt there. is this a turbo/sc or nitrous engine? what kinda power u lookin at.

like i said, these have been good to me so far, but u really dont wana cheap out when ur spending that much in the first place u know....

why do you say scat is a budget rod?
the i beam is more of a budget yes, but nothing wrong with other scat stuff.

I'm doing a turbo setup and building for between 600 and 700rwhp, and trying to keep costs under control... I'm sure most of you know how hard that is! I also see that A LOT of guys on this board have a tendancy to overbuild their motors. Really what I want to know is what kind of low-dollar rod can I get that isn't "junk". Would I be better off with an Eagle I-beam rod, Scat I-beam rod, or maybe a different brand?!

I would consider the CompStar rods or Lunati ProMods at those power levels. I know the CompStars are still budget but they have ARP 2000 bolts, the finish machining is excellent, and the weights are very consistant and I have used them in a 650 rwhp engine, and wouldn't see a problem using them up till around 800rwhp

That sounds like a lot of rod! I'm looking for the most bang for the buck... I don't understand how people rate rods at a horsepower level.. rod loads are ultimately the function of 1) the mass of the piston/pin/ring and 2) the engine speed? Any rod will fail if you spin it fast enough, whether it's putting out 100hp or 1,000hp.

Anybody know of any inexpensive rods that aren't "junk"?... and by that I mean have a decent quality of workmanship.

The Scat rods have lived at over 1100 hp in a turbo LSx engine. For what you guys are going to do with them, they should more than enough rod.

Scat I-beam or H-beam... the H-beams seem to be the most popular, but also the most expensive.

700 at the tires is a lot of power...why use cheap crap??? not saying scat is cheap, but go H-beam not I-beam. $180 is still cheaper than throwing a rod through the block. go big or go home.

Really though, stock rods can take that much horsepower, it is usually the rod bolts that let go not the rods thenselves. The SCAT rods wil be fine if you are budget concerned.
