Default auto vs 6 speed

what do guys think would go best? it seems like alot of engines that are mated and for sale are the 6 speed variety. i will be running a trex and a valvetrain upgrade and eventually some decent heads. ill have a ford 8.8 and slicks(sometimes). so im looking at like 410 whp atleast. which will be better?? this is a seasonal vehicle mostly.

I would go the A4 route if I were you. The only thing that is going to be a bear is the tuning that will be involved with that cam.

If you are seasonal I would say A4 as well. especially if you are gonna run some slicks. that just seems like it would be more of a race truck that way.

M6 = dyno queen
A4 = track queen

which do you want more?

which one is cheaper to fix and make stronger?? lol. numbers are just bragging rights to me. i do wanna drag it and i understand that a manual is extremely hard on rear ends.

Well I have owned both. A 2002 z28 A4 and currently a 2002 SS M6. If you want to race it I would definately get an A4. It is so much easier to get good consistent hook ups with an A4. M6 is fun to drive, but to race A4 is just all around better.

I have a manual and I LOVE it. If it's an all out drag car, yes it's really hard to beat an A4. If you ever want to AutoX or RR it though watch out.

The thing is though that with an A4, to go fast usually requires a big 4K+ stall. They suck driving around town. It always sounds like you're racing even though you're going 15mph, it feels sluggish at low RPMS, fuel economy sucks, etc. You can have a slightly slower M6 car, but drive it off the track and into town no problem. M6s are waay more fun to drive around town anyways (discounting stop and go traffic). They get better gas mileage, deal with big cams better, put down more horsepower, and have a whole host of other advantages.

Basically in MY opinion, A4= dedicated drag car, M6= everything else

I would go A4 just for results at the track. M6 is just fun as **** to drive.

M6 is a cheaper rebuild in most cases.

and in most cases you don't need to "build" it until a lot higher HP/TQ ranges. Some people have 1000+ HP on a stock T-56 whereas people with just a cam or nitrous usually need their A4 built.

i have a m6 and 60 foot in the 1.4's on a stock weight car(1.3's best). i have also out powered and drove many a4's w/big stalls,head and cam cars like my self. the m6 dont need a big stall and drives better around town with a big cam.you have to drive the m6 at the track(more work) where if i were to buy my car again,i would go a4 just because it's less work. they both have strong points,but the a4 is the way i would go now.
ZEUS-made some great points too.

Those r some excellent points and I agree 100% with u , but one more thing that an A4 is easier to deal and drive at the track( which makes every one do well at the track) , but once you got a good stick driver you can get equal results (mike c. did a best of 1.3 that few A4`s done that). However, we have seen soo many 10s M6 cam only .

finally there r many points to discuss but both have thier own advantages and it really depends on both the combo and the driver.

well im thinking about the rear aspect because manuals are so much worse on rears than a a4. im sure a ford 8.8 can take but im not sure. i was told that with a 4000 stall that was a lock up it drives just fine around town. wouldnt i be going through clutches left and right with over 450 hp at the crank?
