Default My review of ETP 225's....Long

Ok, kind of tired of reading all the "ETP Heads are Hype" bullshit threads. So, I will simply post my real world experience with them, since I have a set, unlike so many ppl that comment on them!

I ordered a set sometime last begining of Oct through a member who was an enormous help, cant even begin to thank him enough. I did received a pair of 225cc, 59cc chambered 11* heads and yes they looked beautiful, as almost every CNC Head I have seen usually does.

I installed the heads on my new 11.62 Forged 347 that A P E built sometime early last year, and that I went through to make sure tolerances were within acceptable range. During install I had a couple questions so I called ETP, on a Sunday. I believe it was Matt, but could be wrong on the name, anyway, someone answered the phone and answered my questions. The person I talked with was a machinist, not a sales person, and to my surprise, I received a follow-up pm from Craig AND Cary about the questions. Both reitertated the information given by over the phone on a SUNDAY!

I had the first start up on the 16 Dec at night. All went well. And on Sat the 17th, I did a final check of everything, fluid etc, drove it home from the Military Auto Skills Shop and then raced it that night with 25 miles or so on it. Flawless. At the time I had Stock Manifolds, Cats and Y Pipe on it. I was trapping 12.6 @ 110 off the foot brake 2.0 60'. Not the best, but this was not fully tuned, still rich as hell and low as hell timing. I got my Kooks 1 7/8" LTs & Y Pipe in, trapped 11.57 @ 116mph off the trans brake with a 1.7 60'. I used to get some low 1.5's, but the 26" ET Streets werent holding.

Before you jump in and say I should be trapping this or that, run the numbers through some calculators and you should up around 425rwhp, not the billboard sell all to the public numbers, but still the AFR isnt dialed in, and timing is still low. Why? Simple, this engine was planned and built to run mid-sized nitrous shots, 200-300 shots. It was also built with me Daily Driving the car in mind, and I have done just that. With less than 500 miles on it, I have logged 14 track passes, no Nitrous passes yet. I am also running a stock 3.23 rear end. Mods are in the sig. I also did the math on the TC Slip, 19% OMG thats terrible, yes, it is. I plan on getting that swapped out also.

Thing to think about with all these bullshit threads, is who has what. If you dont have the parts, dont talk **** about them! If you look at someone running ETP Heads, WTF else are they running? My car and yours will not run the same. My track (especially here in Hawaii) may be "slower", usually a result of having high DA and low track prep.

Am I happy? Hell yes. I currently am the quickest NA LS1 in Hawaii, there are a couple faster (mph). For comparison, cuz its only fair... Drew778 has a forged 347 @ about 10.2:1 compr, AFR 205's, Stealth2 Cam, 90/90, EWP, same exhaust basically, 3.42 gears, about the same 3500#'s and ran a ET DR's to 11.575 @ 115 with about the same 60', and this kid (ha ha ha Andrew) can fricken drive like the wind! Helps he has a computer shift for him, where as I have to guess the shift point with my TH350 Harlan shiftlight going in soon!

I am happy with the Customer Care and Service. I am happy with the product. I have first hand knowledge dealing with them and would recommend the heads to anyone who's combo they would work with, not everyone NEEDS such good heads

Add to this, the FACT that you can squeeze a little more cam in there w/o P2V issues and some ppl will happy as well.

I dont know if these are the end all be all of heads, but the work for me and the guys care. Excellent product with great informative Customer Service. Thanks for reading and thanks for casting these bad boys ETP Crew!

No matter how good the heads are they are only as good as....
1) Your weakest link or restrictor plate...
2) The air you race in...

Good write-up Charlie. Are you still running the CheaTR or was that in a different car?

I trapped 116 with my cam only g5x3. stock heads and stock ls1 intake. I'm not gonna comment on what you should trap because I know there are alot of different factors as for what makes these numbers, I'm just putting this out there.

good luck with your set up and congrats on being the fastest car in the state of Hawaii

Glad you are happy and it sounds like a good combo, also the customer service sounds awesome. A sunday phone conversation is unheard of.

I do have to say though, the definition of IRONY:

Arent you doing EXACTLY what you said not to do?

It is human nature to want to feel like you got the best deal and the best head. Try not to judge people lest ye be judged.

Around 900-1400 is the typical range at our track. Another factor that affects our track numbers are the tradewinds.

I would kill for a DA that low at our track, last time I was out the DA was around 7500 .

Patrick G., that cam is in a friends car. He's still running it and loving it. Smooth daily driver.

93LS1RX7...yes in a way contradictive, but also, I helped wrench on this car, and tune it. Andrew is like my local brother, so I kind of felt it was close enough for me to share. And if you read it, he is running a MUCH smaller cam + smaller heads and same times I do NA. So that speaks very well of AFR...not **** talking about them or "wanting to think I got the best deal" anything.

Phil, replied to the pm, and I agree with getting the combo sorted out.

Thanks for the comments. Hopefully I will be able to get the TC, gearing and tuning dialed in better so I can get some more thorough results. So far, I enjoy it...until I go to the gas station
