Default Some insight please

Im doing a heads and cam install. Parts are as follows

2000 Camaro SS

AFR 205 heads 59cc chambers
Comp cams 230/234 591/598 114+4
ASP Underdrive Pulley
Ls2 timing chain
Ls6 oil pump
Ls6 Intake manifold

Here is the big question!!!

Im in a toss up as to which headers to buy. I would like to buy the QTP's with HVMC's but am trying to justify the cost. Approximetely how much of a RWHP/RWTQ gain would I see with the QTP's and catted Y pipe over getting Pacesetter Lt's and catted Y pipe?

Please help, any input would be greatly appreciated. I dont want to spend an extra $700 for 5 rwhp.

Thank you.

I don't know what the horsepower difference between the two would be, but if it were me I'd get the pacesetters just for the price IMO. Best bang for the buck, and they're a great header. I really like mine, and that extra $700 can go a long way to other mods.....

The Edelbrock Victors with their merge collector
look plenty nice and plenty cheap. The Y is also
supposed to be not-bad.

I agree I've heard a lot of good reviews/reports of the Edelbrock headers, the Y pipe looks real nice, but I'm not sure they offer a Catted one, certainly couldn't find one on their website last time I looked.

As for QTP's vs Pacesetter. It's a tough one to call. I think most of what you would be paying for is the longevity of the stainless steel, plus the bling factor if polished.

At the end of the day Pacesetters are proven to make good HP so I doubt there would be much in it.

a completly wild guess would be 0-20rwhp, but I'd bet on more like 10rwhp at most. And the most change in wrhp is likely to be a result of the different CATS used in each setup and the quality of the Y merge collector more than the headers them self.

If you have the money go for the QTP's. As for me I just coudn't justify it and will be getting the Pacesetters. If they rust through in 3-4 years time then I might consider replacing them with stainless steel ones.

Its not the longevity factor that Im worried about at all. Its power and thats the only thing I care about. QTP headrs have hig velocity merge collectors, they are also the longest long tube header and should make nice torque numbers aswell. I think that Ive decided to bite the bullet and go with the QTP's and the crazy expensive QTP catted Y pipe.

umm it still depends. Having HVMC is mostly marketing, well at least it could be viewed that way.

As for primary lenght, the way I understand it the longer the primary the lower in the rpms it will make the torque (this is probably why Mac mids can make good power, shorties too have the potential but they probably ae not optimised until 10,000rpm hence they don't really work very well on a push rod V8).

If you want some tech info, click the link in my sig MOD GUIDE, and read posts 6 & 13 onwards.

I say go for the QTP's. The merge collector should add a little more power. Whats the price differance between the headers? $300-350? What else would gain you 10-20 hp for that money?
