Default engine builders inside

This may be dumb, but do you guys always replace your bearings if you have the motor out and are reringing it.I would think yes but some things on these ls1's are diffrent than normal. Thanks

How many miles on the motor. Are they stock bearing or race bearings?

Main bearings I would change since you are doing a rebuild..I would replace all the bearings (cam, rod, mains) and get them polydyned coated also as this will give you piece of mine!!!

I would also replace the rod bolts w/ARP's as one of mine came loose and destroyed my shortblock..

I agree with BadZ. Since everything is out of the car get some nice bearings for that engine. And the rod bolts is a must. I think it was GeorgeC that had a nice fire due to a thrown rod. There are pictures of the aftermath somewhere on this site.

And since the engine is out I would add studs instead of regular bolts.

If you are going to have it apart.

Rings, Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, ARP Main Studs, ARP head Studs, ARP Rod Bolts. That is the big ones, doing cam bearings is never easy, but they are optional. If you are building a engine up (forged pistons.. any machine work) then YES! replace them.

I dont believe in studding mains on this engine. Who out there has had main caps shift on them causing bearing problems? LS1 has plenty 0f crank support and stock bolts wont distort factory main bore machining.Spend that money elsewhere!

I have already bought my gaskets, rod bolts and head studs. Those were no brainers.I want pistons but will have to wait a little longer if I go with them. What has been you guys experiance with wear on the sleeves?Like I said before I have 30000 miles and 28000 of them with 400rwhp.I think I should be able to just hone them .005 and run a 3.903 bore piston and rings.Does this sound reasonable before I order pistons? Also what bearings just gm or what? Thanks for the great info and opinons that is what makes this site great.
