Default Hot Cam?

What kind of power gains are expected from a hot cam? I don't know whether to get the hot cam kit from SDPC, or buy my buddies TSP 231/237. Budget is holding me back here, thats why my choices are limited.

I would go with the 231/237 if I were you. hotcam is proven but so is that TSP stick.

Can I get away with using 918's with the TSP, and what size pushrod on a stock 5.3 head.

I run 918's on a 244/248. So I would say you are completely fine. They are rated well over .600 lift.

I ran 918's on the TSP 231/237 no problem. The ramp rates aren't too aggressive. The cam hits hard in the upper rev range. Mid range is good. Low end is not that great. A good tune is absolutely necessary.

I would use and trust Comp 918's on basically any cam you could put into a street driven LS1. I believe they were rated to .620 lift before the 921's came out and the beehive design is a plus.

I know how working on a budget goes, I would take a used 231/237 (I assume he upgraded?) before a hotcam. I see a heads/cam/stalled LS1 in your sig, what car is this for? What transmission? What gears/converter?

That was my old car that my wife made me sell. I finally got another f-body "two years later." The cam is for my new project. I just bought a TCI4000 from another member, and the gears are stock 3.23's. I have in my storage already-dynatech headers, borla exhaust, the converter is coming, and probably the 231/237. I have a new set of 7.45 pushrods that I bought for my other car, like two years ago. Will these work with the 231/237?

I made a mistake. I do have the 7.425 from Lunati. Will these work with the 231/237 and completely stock 5.3's.

I would say so, but don't ever take anyone's word for it on here without ever checking it yourself with the correct tools. These cars are like fingerprints....you get my drift.
