Invest half of that money, the rest put into your car. Thats what i would do, im making a smart decision by investin git yet using the other half to mod my car and enjoy myself.

Option 1:
Head &cam $3K-$3.5K= 450ish RWHP with the right cam
Headers: $500-$800
Pulleys: $250
Programming/tuning: $200
Other associated small mods if you don't already have them: $500-$1000

Option 2
Supercharger - ATI perhaps installed with tuning: priceless ($5000ish)
Don't forget some headers
All for under $6500= sick power well over the 450RWHP you want and no bottles to fill.

You could get one of those new Warlock blocks that let you get 454ci in an ls design motor. I think world products makes it. Its pretty sweet. Just the block though...A complete motor might set you back a little more than 6500...but i dont think too much more. Much cheaper than an ls7.

do you have any mods yet like a lid or anything? sorry maybe i missed that.
How many miles are on the car? if its low do rockin H/C swap and kooks LTs and suspension work.
if its high just so a 408 with all the bells and bows. then get some DRs caseu youll needem.
oh yeah whats you plan with the car jsut a DD or a track star or double duty? this can have an outcome on what you should do.
dont for get the cost of tuning adds up fast. if you get HP tuners and what to do it youself get a wideband also. thats 650 for HP and 250 for the WB. thats a chunk right there. so soing a 408 for 6500 is gonna be close i think. but then again your wifes seems cool if you get close to the end and need it get some more money from her
do you need to by a nitrous kit too with that money?

i was talking to a guy from katech about that, in the end it'll be way more than a ls7 block. i vote if you are that well off, h/c, forged 347, 12 bolt, nitrous, suspension. theres a fun low 10 second car

I'd buy a complete D1 kit. New or used. You can get it all with fuel upgrades for $4k.

You'll have money left over and more power is just a pulley and Escalade head change away.

I would get Firehawk to polish my entire car incuding body, engine, frame and interior to a mirror finish and drive in front of all the trucks that have the huge aluminum bumper just to give them a taste of their own medicine.

Do you know it's $6000 in the heads and block alone? It's going to be more than an LS7...much more.

I read an article in the latest issue of GM High-Tech that said that the Warlock was the budget option for the LS7. Maybe it was for the 427CID though. Can't recall, but they were making a big deal in comparison of the two price wise...FWIW

Considering the LS7 is $13,000, and you can get the Warlocks block AND heads for $6,000...I don't see how it would be more, much less MUCH more...and I'm going out on a limb, but I'm guessing that you would be making more with the Warlock than an LS7 LOL.
