well i can deal with the whine as long as the cam isnt destroying my cam bearings and lifters. ive read that some people have had the whine for thousands of miles without problems. I like to live dangerously, and if it breaks time for a upgrade.

I think that's foolish, you should take it right out.

I have installed many cams. I never once heard one whine like ours is. It's most definitely not normal and I highly doubt it's harmless. That noise has to be coming from an incorrect clearance either the lobe against the lifter or the journal against the cam bearing.

Mine's coming right out because if cam bearings go, that's an engine pull + disassemble to get to them.

If it is discovered to be the cam JSteele please contact me immediately and we will work to resolve whatever issue caused the problem.

Ill probably pull the pass head and inspect the lifters. They gave me an issue getting the old cam out and new in. I think the trays are worn. Had to use pen magnets to hold them up. Could that be the problem? Stock lifters 106k miles.

No, although it's probably a good idea to change the lifters due to mileage regardless.

You can inspect some of the lifters through the valley as well. If you replace them, the Brian Tooley lifters are a good piece for the price.

That's not your whining noise though. Mine's identical and I know it's not from the lifters. I've had 6 cams in this car and I don't believe in that coincidence that as soon as I did the 6th cam swap, my lifters took a **** on first start up lol.

It's something with the cam core.

I'm one thousand percent sure it's the cam. All the videos I found after a day's worth of research prove that. All identical noises.

Now, whether the vendors think that is enough for proof, remains to be seen

For those who missed my thread...

Not an ls1, but another comp grind

Another comp grind in a durango

Another C5Z with a cam swap. You can read the comments section where it states the noise was resolved by switching cams.

And my car

From the comments of the c5z video

"Sadly it was the cam. I had to re-install the stock z06 cam. issue was the back of the cam was rubbing. I sent the cam back to Comp Cams for inspection who claim that all specs were correct. The cam has wear marks on the rear of cam."

Do us a favor and cut open the current oil filter you have?

Hopefully you have zero wear and it's just a noise thing!

My TRex whined before I pulled it to put in a Futral F13. The F13 does not whine at all. I also swapped heads, lifters, timing chain, lifter trays and valve springs when I pulled the Rex. The car sounded like it had a blower with the TRex in there, it very obvious..For the record though, saw no wear on the lobes or lifter wheels, cam looked perfect when it came out.

There has to be a reason they whine. Was there any wear anywhere?

If it looked perfect, it's gonna be tough to get warrantied. Just because the whine is harmless doesn't make it right either. The sound is really loud inside the cabin on my car and it's annoying.
