I've had that happen.

See if he will start it with the front cover just barely on to see if the whine stops. If the whine doesn't stop, see if he can toss in a stock cam real quick to see if the whine stops.

Was there any update on the source of the whine?

I live in the north east and we just got 13 inches of snow. I also checked the weather and it looks like it's going to be upper teens for the next 2+ weeks, so not yet .

I'm thinking Feb 8th might be a day where I can get on a friends lift, assuming the snow is gone by then and I can get my vette out of it lol.

I'm going to take a video of both cams with everything disconnected and just the front cover lightly on to keep oil from splashing around.

Should have tested it with a stock cam real quick while you were there with the pump off. You can run the car with no pulley on it with just the front cover held on by a bolt or two.

I am 100000% sure it's not a vacuum leak. If it was a vacuum leak that loud, the car's idle would hang. Plus, it's a mechanical noise. Vacuum leaks make sucking noises.

The car was at the tuners getting worked on, I was not there because i work for a living.lol. I cant hang out there all day, and plus I wasnt going to pay them the extra money to just throw a stock cam in there. They were convinced it wasnt the cam, so only time will tell.

It would have just been unbolting the rockers, pulling the cam out, putting another one in, and bolting the rockers back up. That's maybe an hours worth of labor since they were right there, but it's your money.

If it wasn't your oil pump, I don't see how they could make the diagnosis it wasn't the cam without even checking it?

You said yourself the sound started right after a cam swap. I don't believe in coincidences. I just hope it's not eating away your lifters and/or cam bearings. I know the guys on the Dodge side that had the same noise said they were all fine after 4 years, so that's good at least.

Mine is a junkyard 5.3 anyways so I'm gonna leave it in until it gets worse then I'll swap the short block and cam.

Comp will not warranty my cam since I didn't originally buy it and I bought it NIB from a guy on pt.net

Lol tell that to the North East.

I've had the new cam in my possession for a little while here and just zero opportunities to do the swap.

Looks like 15-17 degrees still all week so the snow ain't movin.

Mine was actually Lunati and yeah I got another Lunati cam in the hopes that if this one doesn't whine, they cover the cost of it.

Well, either I got 2 whining cams or it is something else entirely.

I swapped the cam, oil pump, and chain last night and the whine is identical. Front cam bearing looked fine. Cam journals looked fine.

I'm at a loss right now.

I took two videos with the front cover off, one before and one after, and the noise is the same.

The car runs fine and makes good oil pressure, so I will just drive it I guess. That's a brutal swap in a c5, so I really don't want to do it again anytime soon.

I may pop the heads off and check the lifters.
