went to change my oil and noticed the "truck&suv" oil is now 5w30.
what happened to 40 weight? i cant see how a company can just change oil like that.
im gonna have to contact them this week and find out the reasoning.
back to castrol for me i guess.

the 5w30 is too thin, no matter if the formula has changed or not.

Well, i cant see how Amsoil's 5W40 is that much better than M1's. When you can get 5 qts at your local wallyworld for 21$, id say yes, I HAVE TO HAVE MY M1( little bratty kids voice)

bobistheoilguy.com (such a technical name) rules. It goes over different oil viscosities, and shows how thin Mobil 1 5w30 is..
German Castrol Syntec 0w30 (Autozone usually carries it.. at least they do here), AMSoil 5w40, Redline 5w30, all top notch.

Some engine builder (sponsor and not affiliated w/ oil products ..i'll do a search for ya later on my lunch break) talks about the varnish M1 leaves behind on all the motors that he has had to rebuild. Is the M1 5w40 a bad oil? By no means at all, as oil analysis at bitog has shown good wear numbers.. but AMSoil, redline, and german castrol are top notch.. definately come recommended as the best of the best.

In the real world, maybe not, but the Amsoil outspecs the M1 by leaps and bounds. Again, it may not matter as either one (or GC or Redline or Cosworth) are overkill (especially if you change them at < 6K miles). But, on paper at least, the Amsoil is tops.

the original truck and suv was a 5w40 oil. now the truck and suv oil is labeled 5w30, its nowhere near the same oil, as mobil 1's 5w30 is as thin as the wind.

People are saying that Mobil changed that to 5w30, and I am not disputing that, just saying my place still has the 5w40 available....for now.
