I'm looking to buy a TR 224 114LSA. I know I can reuse the stock retainers, but what will I gain by replacing them with titanium? Are there any downsides to the Ti?
Also, the reason I'm choosing this cam for my 2000 SS is it's my DD. With full bolt ons I want to be VERY close to the 400 rwhp mark. Is this possible? (I think it is.) Will the Ti retainers help me achieve my goal?

There are no downsides to Ti retainers. They're about 50% lighter than stock, and makes the valvetrain more efficient and faster revving.
You should be able to get close to 400 with that cam and a good tune, but the Ti retainers won't make or break you, but they will help.

You don't mention changing the springs, but I assume that is what you intend with 918's since you are using stock retainers.
One other upside to the titanium retainers (or Comp steel for that matter), they fit the spring better than stock. I don't like the way the stock retainers fit, and personally wouldn't use them on the 918's.

yea exactly...the Ti can buy you a few hundred revs before valve float would normally occur. Dont forget though, your making it that much easier on other parts by saving a little bit of weight. If you have the extra cash..i would buy them, if your on a tight budget dont worry about it. I personally have them, i just have not installed the cam yet...i figured it was a little bit of extra insurance at high RPM

Of course I will be replacing the stock springs with 918's. I won't be revving the crap out of my engine, but the Ti seems to be a little bit of insurance. I might as well spend the extra $.
