Default Vacuum pump setup questions..

We're installing a pair of vacuum pumps next week and have a couple of questions and hope someone can help.

We're welding 2 -10 bungs on the valve covers and running each side to the vacuum pump and the exhaust side is going to a catch can with a filter on the top and a petcock on the bottom. Do you need to add a relief port on the valve cover so its almost like a controlled leak or just leave it sealed?

Yes you need a vacuum relief valve or you can try to find it by making a hole

I welded mine into the drivers side valve cover where the PCV port was. I will try and link a pic....

Here is mine. You can see the vacuum relief valve on the far right of the pic almost at the firewall.

One last post, you can get by with just the one bung on the passenger side cover. The vacuum across the motor will be consistant you dont need two.

I was alos told look at around 14-15" of vacuum at WOT

Thanks for the reply. We're using sheetmetal valvecovers with 2 - 10 bungs on each side. I figured there needed to be either a filter or a relief plug to pull from.

We didn't use a valve relief on ours because the size of the pulley was so big we were told it was not necessary. We'll have a better idea after the dyno. We used one -12an line into the valley cover, and so far it is working great.

Thanks, I figured it was a single plane intake. There is absolutely no room with the Fast or LS1/6 but I am going to find a solution. If you can take a pic it would be a great big help.

the stock valley cover is cast alum. you could fabricate a thinner one if you wanted to.

i have seen motors that had gasket sealing problems from running a vac pump with no relief valve... i cant call it first hand experiance though, since i didnt own or run any of the motors.
i would run one if it was my car... besides, after a specific point, the extra vacuum is just creating more drag with the pump...

Sounds good, I am going to fabricate a tube that has a -12 connection on one end welded to the cover. Thanks!
