you would still most likely still need to get at least 3:73's to keep it pretty streetable... you could leave the gears in it now but it would "buck" and "jump" on you like crazy

You can get away with stock gears, but it won't be fun. If you can't afford or don't want to get gears ASAP after the cam swap, get a different (smaller) cam. It sucks to have such a mis-matched setup. Trust me. An MS3 in an auto with a 3500 stall speed converter and 3.23's wasn't the best match either, and an M6 with stock geras will be even worse because it will degrade your drivability as well as performance.

You can but it will almost ruin the fun of the cam. Just get em and let er rip! Gears are pretty inexpensive anyway.

You should be able to get away with it...may just take a lil more revving to keep it tolerable and fun

I run stock gears with the 244/248....it is a dog under 4800 RPMS. Trust me.

I run a 228/230 .588"/.592" 112+4 without gears, though it takes a tad bit of clutch action to get moving nicley. I've often wondered if 3.73's, or 4.11's would wake it up. I have a 50 mile a day drive to work though, so gas milage is of some importance.

227/231 571/578 111 here , 3:42 gears. Runs much better than the TR224 did with these gears, I belive part of it is tuning. I'd love to get gears though, just don't want to put glass 4:10's in the 10-bolt and don't have the cash for a real rear end right now.

Why not pleasant? You really do need a good tune. But thats about it. I never really had any bucking. I could creep away from a stop with no issues. I had 3.23 gears and 3500 stall.

Big difference between an M6 and an A4 with an aftermarket converter. Of course you were fine with 3.23's....you had a 3500 stall speed converter.

The original poster has a six speed. BIG difference. Gears are much, much more important for an M6 than a stalled A4.

BTW: 3500 stall and 3.23 gears is not optimizing the MS3, it's powerband calls for at least a 3800 stall speed, 4k is even better.

Wake it up?! Man, it'l be like night and day. With 4.10's it'll just jump off the line (...and maybe into the shop; but it'll be fun getting there). Taller gears can make any cam streetable...

I would not run it in an M6 simply due to the clutch slipping factor. With that size cam on stock 3.42's from a stopsign your clutch will hate you. I can't wait to add 4.10s to my 224.
