Question SDPC Z+220 Cam & Z06 Springs - Good Match?

I'm buying a 2006 Silverado Crew Cab 2WD LQ9 6.0L truck soon (it's on order).

Even though I don't have it yet, I've been thinking of how to add a few more HP.

After searching the sponsors, I came across a custom SDPC cam and the GM Z06 valve spring kit for some good prices:

SDPC Z+220 Custom Cam

GM Z06 Valve Spring Kit

I'm not looking to make killer power with this combo nor will I spin it high since the truck intake doesn't allow for it, i just want a solid 20-25 more HP.

Basically my question is, will the Z06 valve springs work and last at least 50K miles with this cam that only has .551 lift? I'm thinking it should but thought I would ask here for some more input.

I think it would work, but the power curve of that cam may be higher than you want. I measured the Z06 springs and the Comp 918's, the wire diameter is the same. One advantage of the beehive design is the lower entrained mass.

Hi Folks
The Z06 springs are only good for .571 lift.

hey bill is that the new springs or the older ones? I had read the new 2003 and up were good to .580. However I bet ramp rate and valve speed has something to do with this also...

I would think that the power band of this cam would be a little too high and with 6.0L you might want to go a little bigger.

That cam is a Crane grind and Vinci has some killer truck grinds. You might want to talk to Roger Vinci (sponsor) about your application.

Hi Dave
the older springs - I did not know about the new ones.

Yeah I saw on SDPC that it was a Crane grind. I might opt for a 116lsa so it won't lope as much.

I'm just doing my research now so when the time comes, I'll be ready.

Do you guys think there will be any issues using the LS6 springs with that cam? This truck will be my daily driver, I don't want to be changing springs every 15k miles.

Yes they are, what I meant was the beehive design would probably have an easier time keeping up with the cam due to its lower entrained mass.
