Default 6.0L gaskets on a 5.7

I'm assuming using 6.0L gaskets on a 5.7L is ok, correct? I ask because I ordered some MLS gaskets from a sponsor and these were shipped to me. I'm sure it's ok, but I'm just curious why to use a 6.0 over a 5.7?

It will lower your compression a bit because of the gaskets bigger bore.

Not much though. Playing with my CR calculator and using the following specs:

66cc heads
11cc dished pistons
3.905 Bore
3.662 Stroke
.007 above deck
.051" thick head gasket

gasket bore - CR
3.908 - 9.391
4.030 - 9.329
4.100 - 9.293
4.160 - 9.262

You really shouldn't be using 6.0 gaskets on a 5.7 engine (3.898 bore). Lowering your CR slightly is the least of your worries compared to increasing area for detonation.

Myself and many others are using the 6.0 MLS gaskets on a 5.7, they will work fine.

Of course they'll work, never said they wouldn't. Just don't personally see a reason to increase area for detonation when the 5.7 gaskets are just as easy to get/put on. A 4.100" gasket will also "work", but to each their own.

I believe that Patriot ships 6.0L gaskets with most of their heads. I myself have run some 6.0L gaskets when using 6.0L heads on a 5.7L block.

Yea, on 6.0 heads, not with 5.7 which is what I assumed to be what this guy is using from his post. If my assumption is wrong, then so is what I have said.

Using them with Dart heads, but the combustion chamber width is a little wider as well.

I'm going to send them back I think. It doesn't make sense on why they sent me 6.0 gaskets.

Yea, unless the heads are the size of the gasket bore (aka, not 5.7 heads), I'd send em back. There's just no reason to introduce detonation area.

When I found out that my .040 Cometics were too thin and I needed thicker ones, I went to a local autoparts store and picked up a cheap Felpro head gasket, which was about the right thickness. The Felpro was for a 6.0 liter, not a 5.7.

When I placed it on the block, it appeard bigger than the bore and my squish was good, but when I placed it on my head, which was upside down on a work bench, I immediatley saw that it was smalled than the AFR 225 combustion chamber. Check the gasket against your heads, just to make sure before you send them back.

Measure the ID of the gasket with a set of calipers if you have them, to verify they are correct.

I also use the 6.0L head gasket, actualy came with my PP ls6 heads. I see no harm in using them. Actualy need another set now that I am pulling my heads.

Well, if any of you guys want. I have a set of 6.0 liter Cometics that I want to sell. $100 for both. I paid $85 each.

.040 thick. I think that are 4.100 or 4.160 bore (cant remember at the moment). They were mounted on the block when I was claying the pistons and checking P to V. Once, I found that they were to thin for my use (the machine shop decked my block and my AFRs were machined down to 66cc) I bought new ones.
