98 oil pump Question

I've noticed that when my car warms up the oil pressure needle wont stay still at idle. Its reading under 40psi, which is normal, but it just has a slow jump to it like its fluctuating a few pounds up and down. The slightest bit of throttle stops it. I use Mobil1 5w30, and about a half quart of Lucas.
I was just wondering if this was the "sign" that the 97-98 oil pump was about to crash and burn. 75000 miles.

Some cars just do that. i bet your ok. If it was gonna dump then it would of gotten worse. Im sure that mine does too. I dont stare at the fine line.. Its electronic and any impulse can make that happen/.. I think gmpartsdirect has those pumps CHEAP...

My needle seems to jump around a bit too, once it's warm (on a 98). I switched to a ported LS6 during my H/C swap. Still does it. It could be the sending unit. Don't worry about, if it bugs ya too much get a mechanical guage to make sure it's accurate!

1998's gauges were directly connected to the sensor (analog input), weren't they? I think in 1999 the signal then went to the ECU which then sends out a digital signal to the gauges. Maybe you're just seeing analog variations from the sensor either due to voltage fluctuations or just plain engine speed.

I have a 98. I have noticed that the filter makes alot of difference in how the oil pressure works. At idle on a cold start with my a/c delco filter and 10w30 mobil I sit right at 40 no pulsing or anything. Once it gets warmed up ith sits between the 40 and 20 line on the left. With a fram and other crap it sits right on the 20 once its warm and never breaks 40 until I hit 2000rpm. No additives in mine either.
