wow there is really a big difference between the 98-00 and 01-02 cams, wonder what gains you would see with a swap to the older cam?

Don't go through all that trouble just to gain

You might as well buy a real cam/springs/ pushrods package and do it right. That's a lot of work for nothing. I've changed twice. Went from 224 to this 236. Even the '02 zo6 cam would really be a waste. Not much "felt" difference.

I'd go aftermarket, especially for a cam. Going aftermarket doesn't hold true for everything, like lifters/rockers IMO. But an engine is built with All parts in consideration, and it takes a third party to improve upon a Specific part with hours of testing.
Stock parts are the way they are because of the cost vs. profit factor, and because they keep smoother driveability with the other parts they come with.
I paid 550 for labor and 450 for dynotune with my cam swap and I chose comp cams.

My advice is go with a good cam pckg with some 7.4's and 9.18s and you'll be happy.
Looking to other side of the aisle, I can see why people buy ls7 clutches instead of specs or mcclouds. But I for one, have been much happier with custom/aftermarket setups than stock

Not to mention way better flowing heads (250 vs. 222cfm).

Only the LS6 heads flowed that much^ (250). The later LS1 heads only flowed a little bit better 10-15 CFM.
