Find something else to look at. ARE does not have a good reputation around here.

Already have them. I picked them up at a price that I couldn't turn down. I plan on having them looked at at a local machine shop. I want them checked out and measured for combustion chamber size, intake runner, and exhaust runner sizes and flowed.

Anything in particular I should have them look for?

Thanks

I don't think the issues mentioned above were quality related. If you already have the heads it's probably no big deal.

I have a set 5.3L heads from them. They flow well, but were milled almost .040.

ARE's problem was not quality,it was wade who has been gone from there for over a year. my motor in my car was done by ARE and it has been nothing but great.

Wade was just one of the many problems at ARE...there are plenty of threads that can be found discussing Wade, Nick, and the rest of the gang at ARE/Autoworxs and how they screw people over.

Whenever you see something for sale in the FS section here you can pretty much knock off an extra 50% if it was ever touched by ARE/Autoworxs...hard to give that stuff away.

In reference to the heads, ARE was notoriously bad at valve jobs so have your place look there.

Cool. I'll have everything gone over very well. Like I said before, I already have the heads, so I'll be using them, but I won't put them on without flow numbers and everything else.

If they were the really early ones, they sucked bad. I had some of the later ones about a year before they shut down. I made 385/385 with them and mild cam (207/220 .571/.578 118.5). They had some really good knife-edging on the intake port split and a stock chamber. I think the old ones were just hogged out.

I bought a set on here from Minty. They were a real pile of ****, I don't know if they came from ARE like that or another machine shop screwed them up. I would check spring pockets, valve guides and valve job. I paid Minty good money, then threw another $600 at them. They were still a pile when I was finished. Good luck!
