Default Pulling the LS1 from the top

Does anyone have a link or any pics at all from someone who pulled their LS1 engine out of the car from the top? Thanks!

I don't know if that is possible, if it is i bet it would be a bitch.I'm guessing you would have to remove everything from the front of the car. So if you are going to take your motor out just find a lift and drop it out the bottom like everyone else.

I did mine from the top. Tranny and all. I had the heads off when I removed it. I also put it back in the top. It went back in complete with the manifold, valve covers and tranny on.

I had the front up on jack stands, and I had to drop it in at a sharp incline.

Here it is coming out.

what is that plate on your timing cover? Is that so you dont have to pull the pulley and timing cover when doing a cam swap?

just did mine through the top also. Had heads off, realised #5 and # 7 are toast so out came the motor, tranny still in car.

We pulled mikecobra95's engine and transmission today with the heads and intake off. We even left the hood on. It took about 5 hours to get the engine and trans out, including getting the heads off. I am sure Mike will post some pics later.

Default Here are the pics of the pull from the TOP!

Took the motor and tranny out at the same time. No real issues..... Total time to get to this point was 5-6 hours of work. Not too bad....

I pulled mine out the top with heads off and no tranny

Put it back in with heads, manifold, and valvecovers.

I am going to try it with the tranny next time.

Every LS1 that I have pulled has been from the top....I have done 6 now...2 times on my own car.....But I have pulled one from the bottom too. If you have the tools (lift) its much easier to pull it from the bottom......
