Default TR224 idle

Just curious has anybody with a TR224 had to drill the hole in the throttle body, or did you just fix the idle completly with tuning?

You can get it right with a tune. If you have a crappy tuner you can use the TB set screw to let a little air in without drilling the TB blade. I would drill only as a last resort.

Exactly, "last resort." I ended up filling the hole with Liquid Weld and redrilling the stock size hole, after a good tune.

Like mentioned before only drill as a last resort. Back in the old days lol it was a easy way to make an LS1 idle better with a larger cam. With tuning capability now it hardly ever needs done.

Mine ran great with no tune,it would surge when you let off the gas but other than that it was fine. got it tuned and it drives almost like stock.397hp stock heads through 9inch.

Thats interesting you guys said it will idle fine on a stock tune. Mine is basically stock, deleted rear O2's, air, EGR, removed tourqe managment. Mine will die if i let it go under 1000RPM.

Mine usually dies if the car is not 100% warm, and if I back up and cut the wheel with the car in reverse, I got a speed inc tune, so I have yet to drill or turn the throttle plate open yet. I guess even with a good tune you still could have an issue.

It's not THAT choppy. It's a nice, strong cam however. I am happy with mine.

Oh, and I thought I had posted this already... but even a good tune can only do so much for your idle. In order to retain the proper IAC range, you must drill. Even Ken@HPtuners will tell you that.

I never heard of drilling a hole in the tb to adjust idle, i had mine bumped up to 850 during the tune and have had no problams.

I just had a dyno tune done at RWTD my IAC's are way out, James says the only way to get them back down is to drill.
