Default LS6 ported heads

I am about to order LS6 ported heads from TSP and wnadered if I should spend the extra $100 on the competition CNC valve job- is it worth it? Also Im puttin in a 228R and wondered if I should get the single or double roller timing set? Or is an LS2 chain on stock sprockets fine? thanks

with you setup you would be better with 5.3 heads. Better compression and close to the same flow.

Yeah get the valvejob, 100 bucks is nothing at this point. Those heads will make great power for ya I run a similar cam with mine. I went with the rollmaster single chain and sprokets. I broke a stock chain so I dont trust them, and I sure as hell dont like the stock sprockets.

I hate to burst your bubble..but I purchased the rollmaster single roller timing chain set last year when I did a cam swap.
When I tore the car down a month ago the chain was already stretched to hell...my stock chain with 85,000 miles had better tension. The gears were also crap...they were also showing more wear than the stock gears.
This is all with only 5000 miles.

I would not recommend that set....throw your stock gears back on and an ls2 chain.

Or at least replace it next year or check it...my set was nothing but crap.

East Side Performance told me to leave my stock chain alone for my setup. Next time i'm in that part of the engine i'll throw on a LS2 for extra safety.

Hmmm. Ive never heard of anyone else having an issue with the rollmaster. Mine has been rock solid so far after a few thousand miles of abuse. If I break this one as well, I guess Ill just be at a loss. As I said I broke the stock Ls6 chain at 47,000 miles...gears also had very significant wear.

Just giving you a heads up.

I would check it once a year if I were you.

If you seen mine you would freak.

I could have gotten a weak one...but you never know.
Be careful.

I would be much happier daily driving the 228R most likely, the ms3 doesnt kick in untill around 4,000 and u have to rev to or past 7000 to get the full effect. why would i do that when i can make more peak horsepower faster? people are overcamming these cars IMO

If your factory gears are not worn too much just go with the ls2 chain and save your self a little cash, the ls2 chains seem to be pretty stout compared to the ls1 chains, and as the others have said, the gears are the same.

Go with the LS2 chain and keep the stock sprockets and call it good. Scoggin-Dickey has a good price on the LS2 chain give'em a call. SPONSER ------->

yeah..I would go with the ls2 chain.

The double roller is nice...but not worth the extra PAIN of install.

If your gears are worn too bad then get some stock replacements.

I'm actually going the same route as you, ordered the ls6 heads with cnc valve job and the 228R package through tsp, I went with the double roller and the ported oil pump, I figured since im in there i might as well change everything, that way hopefully i dont have to worry about it.

I think the LS2 chain and stock sprockets are plenty strong for this level of power....i have seen some serious cars with LS2 chains and have had no trouble.....and yes go with valve upgrade...100$ is well worth it

one more question...will the single 918 spring be okay for the 228R, or should i spend an $100 for the double. Im on a budget and $100 is worth saving if i dont NEED the double. I would think the 918s would be fine since they handle up to .600 lift and the came has only .588 lift...
