T-REX cam questions
All right I was looking at the MS3 because Iam looking for a 10sec cam only timeslip. But a lot of MS3 cams are running low 11's. So I looked at the T-rex and im VERY impressed to say the least. But does the t-rex require fly cutting or any other mods to get it to work in an 01 Z-28?

Well i ordered the kit turbo 400 kit from speed inc. and im going with a 4000 converter. Im not going to put the cam in till i do 4.10's or 4.56's. but its my daily driver and everyone tells me not to do 4.56's but I rarely drive on the highway and I dont drive the car overall that much.

You'll be at 3000 rpms @ 70mph with 4.11s and be getting 200 miles to the tanks tops, most likely less if you went with the TRex.
You'll need a double roller timing chain (you have to grind down a few things to make it fit), ported ls6 oil pump, new lifters which will require pulling the heads so you will also need new head bolts and head gaskets, all the cam bolts and cam gaskets, 4000 converter, 3.73 gears.
I was going to go this way but when I saw all the **** I had to do I decided I might as well do I head swap. Now its going to be the MS3 and stage 2 5.3L heads. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Well, unfortunately I don't have any 1/4 mile times at all, just 1/8th. Broke the rear before I got to run. I did run 7.66 1/8th mile with a 1.9+ 60 ft on Nittos with ZO6 wheels and trapped 94-95 all day. My tune needs work and has been in the car for around 5000 trouble free (engine) miles. I did Thunders full kit with 921's and shimmed them and a JWIS chain. I am pretty tolerable, so its not too bad. Probably will go a little smaller in the near future. But for track use, its great. Street use, its decent. Roll racing, its awesome. Just make sure you have a great tuner.

Ya i wanna do cam only so heads are outta the question, also I dont have the money for heads. But I didnt think that I would have to do all the timing chain and oil pump and all that. But my goals are to get the best time before doing the cam, like get the 400 and big converter, then gears, then all the suspension, then throw in the cam to get high 10's. But about the gears, 4.56's for a d.d. that gets about 20 miles a day just driviing around my town is outta the question?

What size rear tire are you going? You seem your on a tight budget. I did the chain and pump for my peice of mind. Your going to have to do what make you feel good about the set up. Any suspension? Is this going to be a strict DD and track car? How much highway do you drive? Do you just want to run 10's? or do you have anything else for goals? If you want it to last for a few seasons, do it right the first time and put the good stuff in it.

Im on 28" tires all the time, my goals for the car when it is completed is 9's with a 408 and spray. So I dont know if you could use a t-rex in a stroker? Cause if you could then I would keep a t-rex. My car is suspensionless right now but I will be doing drag bags, drag shocks, control arms, panhard bar, sway bar, and torque arm. The car is my D.D. and will be so until probably about a year or two.

I have a T-rex and my stock lifters, chain and oil pump are fine. I just put the cam, springs and pushrods in. Great cam, driveability isnt bad. Im a 6 speed but my buddy had the same setup with a TH400/4,200 converter & 4.10's, it didnt seem bad to me.

First, with stock tires and 4.11's at 70 mph he'de be around 4200 rpms.
Second, i have 4.10's, th350 and get 240-250 miles per tank (98 tank at that, one gallon smaller)
Third, you don't need a double roller. I HATE double rollers and think they are WAY overkill (and you don't have to grind anything to make them fit). Don't need an oil pump, don't need lifters.

Well SUX2BU, this is what I have gathered from this site and with communication between others with these mods.
First, someone with 4.10s PMed me and told me he cruised at 3000rpms in OD @ 70mph when I was considering 4.10s instead of 3.73s, maybe he had an M6 now that you say he will be at RPM instead.
Second, that is the miles per tank this individual claimed to get.
Third, you might not NEED the double roller, but I would much rather spend the extra money for peace of mind. You DO have to grind **** down for it to fit, and you SHOULD at least go with an LS6 oil pump with the TREX, and depending on what mileage his car is, replacement OEM lifters or another aftermarket lifter would be a good idea. You are spinning the hell out of the motor with that cam.
You have to remember, with the TRex you will be spinning close to 7000rpms EVERYTIME you want to get the most power out of this cam. If you want to be cheap about it and skip out on all the above mentioned stuff, go for it. But everytime you hear your engine wind up to almost 7k rpms you better get used to your ******* puckering up to the thought of something breaking. I'd do it for the peace of mind if I were you. Its what, $500 more bucks? I'd do it right the first time if I were you.
I'm only going MS3 and am doing the double roller, LS6 oil pump, and new lifters. You might as well do it if you're going to be in there.

And on everything else yeah it depends on the milage your car has on it. My motor has maybe 70k miles and all i'm adding with the Trex is springs and pushrods (was gonna use stockers but got a good deal on some 7.425's). I put an LS2 chain and ARP rod bolts in when i installed the motor about 12k miles ago.
